Coples to visit with Panthers

caplannfl: The #Panthers are having UNC DE Quinton Coples in for a visit today. Coples is projected to be a top-10 pick.

Not really a surprise, thought I'd post it anyways.

I dont know that I see Coples sliding to us. A tandem of him and Johnson would be nice, but at this point it looks like we will have our pick of any DT we may choose. Which is fine by me.

As a Gamecock fan, it's nice to see Melvin Ingram do me a solid one last time by raising his stock the way he has. Could push someone down to us (or Ingram too, for that matter, I suppose)

Coples at #9 wouldn't be so bad I suppose. I rather use that pick on Fletcher Cox though. Truth be told, I rather trade out of that spot and get another second or third with a first.

Do like coples. i dont get the "he takes plays off" thing. He does have heart, you can see that when he plays. he was just the only player any good on the Dline at UNC... who also had a weak secondary.

He wont get past the Rams at #6, now that they have cut almost their entire D-line rotation to cut 15 mil off their cap. Also, they will look hard at the DT's.

Rams already have Robert Quinn out of UNC from last year at the other DE spot. They have nothing but vets at DT, they will consider taking one.

Love to have coples, need to improve the pass rush and he could do it from inside or outside, plus he is good against the run. I hope mark Barron slips to our second round pick

It was clear to me after the season was over with that the Panthers needed to walk away with the best defensive player in this draft which is without a doubt Morris Claiborne. The problem is they may not be able to get him so they needed to get the second best defensive player which i can honestly say i dont know who that is. But if a decision has to be made it would have to be Coples to me. When the guy actually plays with a chip he is arguably the best defensive player in the draft maybe even better than Claiborne and it would be hard to pass that up with his size and ability. Everybody else has too many limitations and questions to be picked that high with that kind of value. I know people wont agree with this but that just the way im starting to see it. If Coples produces we get more than what we paid for and he is an instant game changer (Teams will have to game plan for him). I cant say that about any other of the top defensive players behind him and thats what the panthers need, and really need to walk out the draft with.

I'd rather have Poe, but I could get behind Coples as the pick.

If the guy could be motivated and play to his potential, then take him. But if everyone was confident of him playing hard, we wouldn't even be debating him at 9 as he would be top three
