Quick Poll # 2

Recommended Posts

Both Poll # 1 and Poll # 2 were actually part of a scientific experiment. Considering the time value of money, the correct answer for both is to wait for the larger value. It was used to explain that even when buying and selling stocks and commodities on the stock market (which is suppose to be void of emotional decisions), people still make money decisions based on emotions. Which is part of the blame for the current economic crisis (emotional decision making helped cause the housing market to bubble, along with other factors).

When Poll # 1 was asked of 100 people on the street, 90% of the people knew the wise thing to do was wait the extra day for the larger value. But when the same people were asked the question from Poll # 2, the majority of the people took the $100 today, even though the wise decision is to wait for the larger value. Due to emotional decision making instead of logical decison making.

This test proved the same thing.

Thanks for being my test subjects.

Sometimes taking the money in the present is better than in the future.

Inflation, current financial status, etc.

Nah, I just wanted to see if I got the same basic results. If asked of me, I would have said the larger of each, only because I've studied and work with the time value of money so much.
