Lombardi says Claiborne will be a Panther

I'm seeing different things you are, then. Not to say you are wrong, I'm just wondering where you're getting your information regarding Reiff.

From CBSSports:

From NFL.com/Mike Mayock Post-Combine:

From NFL.com Overview:

that's mainly pre-combine and before teams actually started looking at him.

lots of comments from team execs looked at him as someone that would be better off moved inside. i posted a few in the combine thread.

link this, i'd like to see

here's just a couple of them and i remember seeing it mentioned by a few others who were there talking to teams. if i had more time and cared more i would find more.

- We’ve been told a number of teams have moved Riley Reiff from offensive tackle to guard on their draft boards.

http://www.draftinsider.net/blog/?p=6165

A "number of teams" have reportedly moved Iowa OT Riley Reiff to guard in their draft positional rankings.

The same rumblings surfaced two years ago when fellow Hawkeye tackle Bryan Bulaga measured in with short arms at the Combine. Reiff's arms are 33 1/4 inches, also sub-optimal for an NFL offensive tackle. The team that drafts Reiff likely wouldn't do so to play guard, but his draft stock may have taken a hit in Indy. He's not in Matt Kalil's area code as a left-tackle prospect. Feb 26 - 10:13 PM

mostly the comments i heard were similar to above and had to do with arm length. that's not to say that he won't get drafted to play OT, but he's not the valuable prospect that many thought he would be.

meanwhile, like i said, some teams were saying that decastro would make almost an ideal RT prospect largely because of his prototypical size and build. also, lots of draftniks were considering cordy glenn a player that would likely move from OT to OG in the pros, but from the sound of it, team scouts weren't on the same page with that at all. from the sound of it they were thinking that glenn should be staying at OT and was more attractive than many draftniks believed.

seems like it's the exact same comment from one guy just repeated. And it's funny they liken him to bulaga because that's who I think he compares to and Bulaga has does great as an OT in the league. the "short" arms thing I think is getting overblown. his arms are like a whopping 1 inch shorter than Kalils. they're not optimal but I wouldn't exactly call them short.

pegging him as an OG seems silly if that's all there is. still think he looks like he could possibly be a very good LT and at worst a RT. doesn't matter much for the panthers though, they aren't taking him.

yeah, it might be overblown and i would be surprised if those two were from the same source (tony pauline who is usually good about getting insider thoughts). like i said, there were others i saw. i didn't try to hard to find the other ones or the tweets i saw.

it's just the sense that i got from listening to people at the combine when they talked to scouts. seemed that reiff wasn't as impressive as people (draftniks) thought. i'd be surprised to see him in the top 10. just seems like one of those type guys that gets hyped up early by the interwebs but then when draft picks start coming, he's still sitting for a while.

the best thing he has going for him is that it's a pretty weak OT class. it's a great OG class but there's really only a couple decent tackle prospects aside from kalil.

at least thats the sense that i'm getting.

the fact that it's a thin OT class and there's a huge dropoff after the top 2/3 is the reason I think this type of "information" is coming out.

teams sitting at the 12-20 range that need an OT sure don't mind spouting off about how Reiff is really only a guard... and hey if you want a guard take Decastro...

know what I mean?

What a screwed up mock. Melvin Ingram going to the Rams at 6th overall? Poe to the Bucs? Those two picks mess the whole mock up. Ingram I can see going before our pick, but the Bucs taking Poe when they just spent a 1st and 2nd round pick on DT's the year before last?

There are always guys that coaches end up liking a lot because of how they fit the "scheme." Poe and Ingram strike me as two guys who could go in the top 10 because of that factor. I would love to have to choose between Claiborne and Coples. Dream scenario...

Actually, the CBSSports rankings were updated yesterday, and have been updated with analysis since the combine. And Mike Mayock's overview was after the combine.

From everything I've read, heard, or seen, Riley Reiff is the 2nd best tackle in this year's draft, and people are falling in love with him left and right.

that's fine. I just haven't been seeing it.

I'm not saying that you're wrong, I just think it's definitely funny how draft time works. We have all of these people saying that person X is incredible and all of these other people saying person X is not good at his position and should be moved.

It makes you wonder what is the truth, and what people are just putting out there so that the player falls to them, like RnR was saying.

    • Canales was brought in to fix Bryce. That was how he sold himself. He failed.  the panthers need a new qb, someone to coach him, and someone to build a defensive staff.  Canales has failed at developing a new qb. His big draft project XL is trending towards bust. His entire nfl resume before the panthers was one season as offensive coordinator on a stacked Bucs team, and being on the offensive staff when a 31 year old Geno smith finally put it all together. And he didn’t even pick his offensive coordinator. Assuming evero is gone, who’s he got in that phone to call? What low lvl porn addict evangelical from the bucs is ready to be Peter principled? There is nothing in his coaching history or his current performance that indicates he’s the person to move this team forward. Every other team knew this last cycle (panthers were only interview) and nothing has happened to change that perception   all people like you have is “well you can’t do it again it’s too soon but <random interval of time> will be different.  just pull off the bandage. There’s no reason to let this guy draft “his guy” except people wanting an excuse not to fire him after 2025.
    • Both Reich and Canales were saddled with trying to build and establish a viable scoring offense around Bryce Young. The best the offense looked this season and last season was with Andy Dalton who is also terrible but still better than Bryce Young. Which should be all anyone needs to know but still somehow there are weirdos here salivating over a ceiling of maybe on a really good day the 25th best QB in the league. We've already canned one entire staff over our first overall pick. You can fire everyone again to satisfy your need for vengeance and quickly come to the realization that your next hire will absolutely unequivocally be a downgrade yes man or you can blow up this QB room and then assess. If no progress next season then you can make changes and justifiably so.
    • Surprised this is the only post with this take.  This is like the Rhule kiss of death lol.
