Mark Sanchez gets a Huge contract extension

This deal makes the Redskins' move for RG3 look like a raging bargain. Sanchez is one of the worst QBs in the NFL.

That's a good point, with the rookies salary cap you have time to find out about a player without hurting the team, so I'm not sure what the Jets are thinking. I guess they think it's confidence builder, I guess...

The contract is a three-year extension for $40.5 million total, $13.5 million per year, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter. The extension gives Sanchez five total years for $58.25 million, with $20.5 million fully guaranteed with no off-sets in 2012 and 2013, according to the source.

20.5 million guaranteed. This is like expecting DWill to see the full value of his current contract.

Get a clue.

sanchez is not one of the worst quarterbacks in the league, let's get real.

not even close to being worth that kind of money though. i don't know what the jets are thinking.

Yes he is. By almost any advanced metric you can find he is the weak-link in that entire offense. He is a bottom ten QB, and they just paid him as if he was top 5.

I mean seriously, get a fuging clue.

Peyton Manning got the Indianapolis Colts to pony up after all. The Colts and their standout quarterback signed a contract Tuesday that includes the largest signing bonus ever paid in the NFL. Manning will receive $34.5 million to sign this deal, valued at $98 million for seven years.

Mark Sanchez is terrible. This deal was worse than Delhomme's, at least Jake had proven in the past he could be a competent QB and the deal was an effort to regain his confidence, Sanchez has proven nothing more than that he sucks.

No Jake was extended because Hurney was completely defeated by the Julius Peppers FT ordeal. It was a desperate attempt to gain some cap space. Even Hurney wasn't ignorant enough to think Jake actually deserved that contract. He was simply covering for his incompetence managing the Cap.

The deal includes $20 million in guaranteed money and clears much needed salary-cap space for Carolina. Delhomme was to count for more than $10 million under the cap next season in the final year of his deal.

The Panthers' cap is weighed down by Julius Peppers' one-year tender under the franchise tag that is worth $16.7 million and has prevented any offseason signings.

Delhomme's extension comes just over three months following his nightmare performance. After a strong season following reconstructive elbow surgery the year before, Delhomme threw five interceptions and lost a fumble in Carolina's 33-13 loss to Arizona in the NFC divisional playoffs

Just one year later Hurney kicked Jake's butt out the door, eating the rest of his salary. He knew Jake was done.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Jake Delhomme walked into the interview room with red eyes and sunglasses in his hand, joking that his allergies were bad.

He started crying before he could get a word out.

Acknowledging he was "blindsided" by his release, Delhomme on Friday vowed his career wasn't over in an emotional day that marked the end of an era and left his former bosses in tears, too.

"Six of my seven years playing here have been outstanding. It's been a great run," Delhomme said in between sniffles. "I'm leaving with no animosity whatsoever."

A few hours earlier, general manager Marty Hurney choked up while calling it the toughest decision he's ever made. Coach John Fox welled up with tears while pleading with fans to remember the good moments.

It was something hardly anyone could've anticipated a year earlier, when the Panthers gave the only quarterback to lead the franchise to the Super Bowl a lucrative contract extension. But after one miserable season, the 35-year-old Delhomme was sent packing despite still being owed more than $12.5 million in guaranteed money.

How could they eat that 12.5 mill salary?

Peppers signed with Chicago.
