Hey my name is random panther fan. How dare hurney sign deangelo to the contract he earned. He should have never given him that money because how dare players on our team believe they will be justly rewarded for thier talents. Look at the dynasty the bears gm created for proof!!!

How did he earn it? Same way Thomas Davis did I guess.

One amazing year vs 2 IRs and other years of decent production does not make the amazing year the standard but the exception

There have been two very difficult to navigate situations in the past five years. The first was Julius Peppers doing everything he could off the field to leave the Panthers. His actions made it extremely difficult to plan around, given his cap figure and management's desire to have him stay in Charlotte. Usually, when a team loses a franchise player like that they end up suffering in the short term as they try and both find a replacement on the field and work through salary cap issues that players of that level cause.

The second difficult situation was the owner-directed youth movement and his refusal to either extend Fox and his staff or replace them. Both of those resulted in situations where teams normally lose big, for the Panthers the resulted in the worst record in football. Lame duck coaches never win, and youth movements rarely do.

I don't know what other GMs would have handled those better, or even differently than Hurney did. I know that this board is full of people who claim they know better, and would have done a better job. Yet none of these people has ever been trusted with an NFL decision of the lowest import. Go figure.

That was great strategy though. They knew what they were doing and it is paying off.

He tried to trade up to get pickles..... Tried ..... To ...... Trade...... UP. Thank god no one did took our offer!

Actually, I don't even think Clausen was their initial choice... I think they wanted The Golden Calf of Bristol if he had fell to our pick. I was actually hoping for Colt McCoy but pretty glad I don't make decisions. As for Clausen, I may be a rare amount of fans who actually think Clausen could wind up being a decent starter, just not in this offens, maybe a WCO.

Just to clarify as I see you might not get the gist of the trade Hurney tried to pull off.

On the second day when Clausen was sitting there at #33 he tried repeatedly to trade up with the Rams to grab him...then other teams on the following picks.

Why didnt you take Terrence Cody!!!!1111

It's Hurney's MO

one good year of production as a rookie automatically gets you a handsome extension. It's good for morale, but it's not a great way to build a winning team, especially when you give a RB a 43 million extension to split carries
