34 - Not the Defense

Hurney and Carolina have overpaid there own for a long time....it has pros and cons. This one probably has more cons than some on the past.

Deangelo was an insurance policy...and a dang good one. If Stewart leaves in FA next year we'll be happy the FO did it. If he stays, expect Deangello to restructure.

Win win for the team.

Roy Helu had more all purpose yards than DWill last season.

We gave DWill 21 millions guaranteed, the Saints gave Sproles 6 million guaranteed. He would have been a perfect compliment to Stew, instead we get a back that is similar, but not as talented as Stew.

DWill will count 8.7 against the cap this season, Sproles 4.2.

Sometimes I get so confused by this FO.

How many times have we gone over this. Overall quantity totals are not good indicators of success or value. Helu got an average 4.2 yards per carry in the run game. He had 7.7 yards per reception.

Meanwhile Williams had a very good 5.4 yards per run and and an 8.4 average for each reception. So per touch Wiliams was much better than Helu.

Sproles was very good last year overall and while he ran only 87 times, he did average a phenomenal 6.9 yards per carry. His passing stats were similar to Williams at 8.3 yards a carry. He just caught 86 passes instead of Williams 16. Totally different offense and scheme. Niot to take away from him in any way because that offense is built and designed for Sproles. I just doubt he would have come close to that kind of prooduction in our scheme though.

When did Sproles ever say that?

Hurney made a terrible "football move", just live with it.

Geez bro. I have never once agreed with that move and I would have let DWill walk if he wouldn't take a realistic contract. Just making the point that with how bad we were a year ago he would not have wanted to play here. Guys like that want to win.

I think Cam again leads us in TDs and will be 2nd in rushing yards.

Rushing yards I think will be comparable again....the recieving yards is how a RB will standout from the other RB. Signs still point to Stewart getting the overall load.

I was just picking a name at random to show how f-ing stupid the re-signing was.

Another poster mentioned that it's not all about rushing yards in our offense, I was just mentioning that DWill was way way down on the total yards board.

You do know that we are running a Norv Turner style O here....the same one that made Sproles a star in SD?

Sproles while not getting 2600+ all purpose would have excelled in our system, would have been a perfect 3rd down back to compliment Stew, and would have solved our return issues.

Williams was a very dumb move by Hurney, and we are paying the price now. (cap problems)

I am pretty sure that Panthro knew where this thread would go.

Probably, bringing up Williams and his role....is always going to come down to the fact he really could be the 3rd cog in the ground game from here on out.

I mean of you were forced to bench someone for 4 games out of our 3 headed monster.....you would have to pick Williams. Stewart in addition to what he does sets up Cam

I hope both Williams and Stewart get more touches this year. Don't want to see Cam running the ball as much as he did last year. If they do get more touches, then yes I can easily see Williams getting a 1000. Fwiw, the running game was nearly nonexistent until the 3rd or 4th game last year, so hopefully it doesn't take as long to get started this season.

It's all up to the defense.

If we can slow the other teams down a bit, we will run more, if not....."Air Cam" again this season.
