Not sure what to make of letting both Senn and Connors go

Honestly LB is one of the most NFL ready positions right out of college. Look at the track record of success for linebackers drafted in the 1st or 2nd round in their rookie years. It's definitely a safe pick.

I understand Connor, but why Senn? He far outperformed his pay. It's not about replaceability, it's about how does the front office treat it's players. Having someone like Senn outperform his pay grade like that in the clutch when there are no other options, he deserved a spot on the roster. This sends a message to the players that it doesn't matter how they perform, that the front office will do what they want regardless. Seems like a silly move if it's because of the cap, since everyone is saying replacement. Replacements cost money too, probably more than what Senn was being payed for what could be less performance.

Most ridiculous post of the day so far.

The team does not owe Senn a spot on this roster because he outperformed his pay grade. He was paid poo last season and played below average.

He was lost in coverage and got washed out consistently in the run game.

yes, he played hard last season and gave us all he had....problem is that it is not good enough.

I am glad to see this franchise finally look to upgrade at all positions (even back-ups) rather than keep trotting out marginal players.

I found it a pretty easy move to understand myself. We're (probably) not confident that either of our two excellent starter LBers will be back 100% and, even if we are, we showed last year that our backups simply aren't going to cut it if something happens.

IMO at least.

And frankly I'm happy with it if we can pull even a slight upgrade at either spot.

I wouldn't mind Keuchly @ 9, but I would rather go DT/CB in the first and go get Terrell Manning in the middle rounds.

Kid is going to be an absolute steal. Last I looked he is projected rounds 4/5. If he had played in the SEC, he would be a 1st rounder.

Also, he would be the perfect insurance/replacement for TD. Very similar size/strength/speed combination to Davis, but more athletic. Great football instincts. Underrated pass rusher as well.

Get him and a decent level FA and our LB corps is set.

well it comes down to two camps for me when you consider why Senn and Connor will be allowed to leave.

The trainers and coaches are extremely confident in TD and JB

or

The trainers are planning on a couple fresh LB's in the draft

The first camp is where I sit because in spite of the possibility of injuries growing on one another or resurfacing, it does not make much sense to dismiss your seasoned backups for new ones if you have any doubt that they will most likely be necessary.

Its tricky and can be argued either way but to me I think our staff is convinced in the rehab of two absolute studs at LB in that they will make a solid return.

I am wary of letting these LBs go when we have so many injury question marks, but I just think that letting them go means that Coach Rivera wants to seriously upgrade the position with both the draft and FA.

I'm pretty happy about that because the linebacker position in Rivera's defense is really important.

This is a necessary move if we want him to build a Defense like he had in Chicago and SD. Both were #1 Defenses, so I trust him.

I guess my point is how are we going to afford to?
