Sorry we can't all sit on our ass like you sir. But someone linked to the article already... So why B$tch about something so small? U don't want to talk about the article then don't. Plz don't derail my thread sir.

I just don't understand why you can't link to the article. If you're going to start a thread about something, is it too much to ask to include the article you want to discuss?

Calm down, son.

As everything of significance from the observer ends up posted on this forum when you post stories like you have been doing it smacks of "hey look at me, I rushed to post this story before anyone else could" and yeah its lame...

Who are you?.....Being here since 2008 and having under 1000 posts is kinda lame. But you crawl out of your rat hole to try to flame me. I'm honored.

That's totally different from rewards for "cart offs" and "knockouts" that are administered by the coaching staff... and that's the thing the NFL really has a beef with because it flies in the face of the whole player safety initiative.

Compounding this, the league told the Saints to knock it off a few years back and the Saints obviously ignored that. The league also told the Saints to disassociate themselves with Ornstein (because he had previously been found guilty of embezzling 350k from the league) and they obviously ignored that as well... Ornstein was one of the guys throwing money in the hat and emailing Sean Payton about it.

So not only will the Saints be punished for the bounty system, they will be punished for totally disregarding league orders on the subject and about an individual who was ultimately involved in the bounty system.

To me, the reward system Minter describes is not the news. Even though it is illegal, it is nothing more illegal than an office bracket for march madness that costs $10 to enter. Because it is directed to special teams, for the most part, it gives the players who make little a few extra coins for going all out.

The players who make major coin are the funders of this--not the coaches or the GM.

The real news here is what was in the back of my mind when I heard the Saints news about Bounties for injuries: Did we do this too? This article is good news to me.

It's monetary reward outside of players contracts. Illegal as anything else. stfu and get a job Mike Minter.

It's technically a violation of the salary cap, but only if the team itself is involved. Either way it's nowhere near setting bounties for getting people carted off the field or knocked out of the game... that's on a totally different level.

mountain out of a molehill.

nothing really to see here. not at all the same thing. doesn't violate the rules because it was totally between players. doesn't set out to injure someone and pay them for carting their body off the field.

now the team did have something called "the black glove" award which was a boxing glove, iirc, that they would give to the player he gave the biggest hit of the day, but it got stopped a pretty soon after people found out about it because of the way it could be viewed by the league and the public and because it might cause the type damage TD caused on that packer his rookie year. pretty sure none of them wanted that baggage.

I did not know about the black glove. Even then, a big hit is not a bounty, just a slam dunk for defensive players. This should be sent to the Saints as an example of how and why they were idiots, even if this is much milder than posting "Wanted: Dead or Alive" posters as they did.

that is monetary incentives for good performance.

the saints ran monetary incentives for dirty plays.

the difference in the lockerroom and on-field culture represented by either one is staggering.

What the Saints did is much worse obviously, but both are against the rules.
