Minter says Players were rewarded for Game changing plays..

game changing plays can include interceptions, sacks, and fumble recoveries.

no.

Those type of pools are happening on every team, Sacks, INT's, FF, FR, Safety, most tackles, Pass deflections, whatever. After this season, most likely all that would end for the most part.

What the Saints were doing, was criminal, trying to hurt people on purpose, out side parties (Mike Orienstein) putting up money to injure certain high profile players, all the cheap shots (half not flagged), and so on is what is getting the SCUMAINTS in trouble.

This is what the endless droves of Aints fans down here don't seem to get. Rewarding a player (more often than not from another player) for a sack or an interception is one thing. But when your GM, your Hc and other various members of your coaching staff and a convicted felon who the league specifically told your organization to stay away from are pooling money to reward players for injuring other players, wellllllllll it's a completely different animal.

http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2012/03/07/3075244/minter-players-had-no-bounties.html

A pair of former Carolina Panthers defenders say Panthers' players would reward teammates for big plays, but it was not the bounty system the New Orleans Saints are accused of using that paid players for hits that knocked opponents out of games.

Mike Minter, who played safety for the Panthers in 1997-2006, said during his years in Charlotte veteran players would offer cash bonuses for momentum-changing plays, particularly on special teams.

Former safety Sean Considine, released last fall after four games during his only season with the Panthers, wasn't with the team nearly as long as Minter. But Considine had the same experience as Minter in terms of an incentive program.

if the rewards system was set up by coaches, and they have documents to prove it, then yes. the Panthers could get in trouble for it.

the thing that makes the Saints situation so sketch isn't the bounty thing, all teams have stuff like that set up. you can deny it all you want but all the players coming out saying it happens just proves it, maybe not injury bounties which is fuging dirty, but interceptions/fumbles/etc, yep. it's such a big deal because it was set up by a coach and they have tens of thousands of documents to prove it.

I can't link to the article on charlotte observer i'm mobile,so if someone could that would be great. Basically, he states players were rewarded(paid) for making game changing plays.

Not sure how the league would view this. Could we be fined? I'm not sure...discuss

I do believe some players contracts, they have incentive clauses. But I don't think it is for game to game performance, total stats at end of year, like get X amount of rushing yards, or X amount of sacks and get x amount of money extra. But I don't believe it is game by game incentives.

Theres a huge difference between trying to break a guys leg on purpose for $1000 and getting a free steak dinner for a key interception.

All teams run "reward" systems. ALL TEAMS (I wouldn't be surprised if we ran one last season. . .although it wouldn't have paid very much :P)

The difference is 1.) it's almost always player-led (no outside contributions), 2.) completely informal (no coach "manages" the pot), 3.) rewards legal momentum-shifting plays (INTs, fumble recoveries, etc.) and 4.) DOESN'T HAVE A PAPER TRAIL.

The Saints screwed up on all of these by running a coach-managed bounty system that rewarded illegal behavior using outside funding and documented their participation. The mere fact that got busted for this is incompetence on an unprecedented level, especially considering they were given a long-standing warning from the league to cut it out.

The scenarios are really not similar in any way.

    • 100% even if rest of team is really talented if they march young out to be qb and he plays like he has for 90% of his starts the panthers have already lost doesnt even matter how good the rest of the team is or isnt and also makes it hard to even tell how good they are.  They need true competition for young this offseason.
    • It will be awesome to have an improved stadium to lose in I guess....   https://www.yahoo.com/news/panthers-file-rezoning-bank-america-111500840.html     The Carolina Panthers have taken another necessary step toward renovating their home of the present and future. Panthers Stadium, LLC, filed its rezoning site plan with the city of Charlotte on Monday, initiating an important — if mostly technical — step toward renovating Bank of America Stadium. The filings state that the rezoning relates “primarily to technical aspects associated with improvements to Bank of America Stadium,” and that the rezoning is required because “the current stadium zoning is out of date” for the team’s stadium renovation plans.   The planned stadium updates include new seats installed throughout the upper and lower bowls; stadium safety and security enhancements; a reimagined South Lawn Pavilion; upgraded restrooms; exterior enhancements (including LED video boards) and more. Planning for the stadium renovation project will continue through 2025, with construction starting in 2026 and the renovation’s conclusion in 2029, The Observer previously reported.
    • In my dream, we somehow luck into a top 2 pick and someone wants a QB bad and doesn’t want anyone else to jump them. Somehow we’ll probably screw up the picks anyway, but it would be nice to do even partially what Chicago did to us. We’d have to lose out, which is a decent possibility unless Tampa is resting. We need Atlanta to stay within a game because Atlanta beat Tampa twice. The rest of the draft slots are who knows because Jax plays the Raiders and then Tennessee and you never know who will rest starters. I think we are top 7 unless we somehow pull out 2 more wins. The 4 win teams have higher SOS and there is only one 5 win team with the same SOS. If we win 1 of 3, we still should stay in top 7. If we lose out and the Jax games work for us, we can easily be top 3.
