Why didn't the Colts give RG3 a chance?

These guys figured out they were taking Luck by week 14, not even giving RG3 the chance or even take him in consideration, this rarely happens in the NFL and both are two great QB's. Shows how poorly operated the Colts are.

Because they want Luck.

I realize that RG3 is getting a ton of hype right now, but Luck is the type of QB prospect that a GM dreams about. You simply can't afford to pass on Luck at #1. He's the safe pick. You pick him and he busts, no one can call you an idiot, because they would've made the same pick. You take RG3 and Luck goes on to be a HOFer and you most certainly look like an idiot.

I like how the Colts are handling it. They know who they want and they're not being shy about it. Totally unlike the sham they tried to pull with Manning/Leaf. Everyone knew they were taking Manning, but they let on like it was a serious consideration between Manning and Leaf.

Lets see, the supposed next big thing in QB history with Andrew Luck, or some guy that can't see over the line of scrimmage?

Because he's black. That's why. Yeah, I said it.

I cannot imagine that is the case. Teams want to give themselves the best chance to win.I am sure RG3 was given consideration but they felt Luck was the better choice.Do you think if Luck stayed in college and it was between Tanenbaum and RG3.....I am sure they would have taken RG3.

If you are a RG3 fan he will be better off with another(better team) and the money want be a big factor.I like both Luck and RG3. Indy will have a horrible supporting staff this year and RG3 will be in a better position.

i'm not sure why it's a problem that they've known who they want for that long. most teams would have done that. he's pretty much the perfect and ideal replacement for peyton. how many guys can you say was a consensus #1 pick for two years in a row.

he'll be coming into the league having been coached by a great pro-caliber coach and former successful pro QB playing a system closer to what is done in the pros. he's coming into the league playing a very disciplined game very much in control and comfortable doing everything. there won't be much of a learning curve like there is with most. he's a safe pick that still has a ton of upside.

that said, i don't see him as being as dynamic as RG3 or a playmaker on the same level. RG3 could end up easily being better than luck, but a lot of that depends on the type system he goes to. the system will need to be built around what he can and can't do comfortably (which isn't much, btw). luck's system experience and coaching and the fact that he's pretty much got a photgraphic memory will enable him to be able to get plugged into pretty much any system and do well.

both guys are special, though, and i don't see a lot of seperation between them. colts could go with either luck or RG3 and be better for it. i wouldn't consider either option a mistake. they just chose the one that they felt better fit what they've been doing for years....only this guy's going to be able to move better.

The gap between the prospects isn't terribly huge, but when you're deciding which guy to take at #1, you're more likely to take the guy with above average height and good athleticism rather than the guy with below average height and great athleticism. There is the offense they ran and the production in it, and the very slight durability question for RG3 in that he was injured, but I think that if Luck wasn't in this draft, RG3 would be the consensus #1 pick, which does say something about how good he is imo
