No more release the Kimbrel...

It's all about 2017 for sure, the way to clear BJ's salary was to trade the best closer in baseball. I guess you don't really need a dominate closer when you are setting up a rebuild.

I love Craig, but I don't really get this trade from the Padres stand point. One of their better prospects and a draft pick? Quentin's money will come off next season and Maybin after 2016, setting up for 2017 when Wisler should be big league ready.

I would like to pat myself on the back for dropping the Braves like a bad habit for the Yankees back in 2011. Yes, I was a lifelong Braves fan ... but dear god what are they doing? Just now saw they traded Kimbrel. How can anyone support them now?

they're going through a rebuild?  why do you need an ace closer when you're trying to lose anyways?  in one offseason they went from a bottom 10 to a top 5 farm system.  Last year the team was stuck in dead water.  They were no longer a playoff team and were tied to some terrible contracts so they had no flexibility. Today's trade alone freed up $80 million in cap space.  Today's news came as a shock to me, but the more I think about it the more I'm okay with it.  We got San Diego's best prospect according to Baseball America.  The only trade that I was a little upset about it is Heyward, I felt like he was a guy you keep for the future.  But who knows, with all this money we could always sign him back this summer.

Lol at you dropping the Braves for the fuging Yankees of all teams.  Have a good day sir

The Braves don't come on up here and I was sick of them choking year after year. I'm proud to support my HOME team, sir.

Why were you upset about Heyward? He was a huge let down.

I know people like to talk about rebuilding, but IMHO, that's old tyme talk. Sports are all about winning now. Neat, the Bravos MIGHT be good in 2017. lol

With the roster the Braves had they had completely maxed out the payroll for a team that went 79-83. With no flexibility to get better and a barren talent pipeline in the farm system, they had to tear it down in order to build it back up in the future. As a Nets fan you should be very familiar with this dilemma.

With the move to Cobb County looming, it's been more about "moving" than "winning for awhile anyway, and with one foot already out the door, it's not like they would be selling a bunch of tickets this season anyway. We've seen here in NC what happens when a team already has one foot out the door (end of the original Hornets, Whalers move to Greensboro, etc.)

I would rather be sold hope for the future via the farm system than hope BJ Upton can produce more efficiency than one or two million dollars per every hit he gets in a 162 game season. Sports is about winning now, but you're just as miserable as a fan when you have a "win now" team that you know can only win so much.

Braves know their pitchers and pitchers in general better than just about anyone. I have to think that they think Kimbrel's arm is close to being toast but at the very least they got a solid prospect and dumped BJ's (no chance i call this idiot Melvin) contract

    • Super raw, not sure he is worth a top 10 pick.  Primary a pass rusher.  A bit like Burns, very fast athletic but doesnt always follow the play.  His highlights look good but when you watch him play you can see he is just raw and needs to develop
    • Personally, I am not sold on Bryce yet--and I do not think anyone is saying they are, but I don't think Ward is on table when we draft anyway.  Not even sure if I would rather have him than one of the later QBs.  I see a lot of potential in Allar, Nussmeire, Rourke, and even Hamilton from Ohio State--Milroe is intriguing, but I am not sure he is an NFL QB.  Ewers is that sleeper who falls and becomes a solid starter. I think that we sign a veteran who has played and we draft one of these project QBs. To your point:  With that in mind, I think you have to take QB off the table in round 1, and if Bryce can string 4-5 games like KC together, we still need to draft a QB in round three or so---I really think Rourke is a great fit for this offense--he is accurate and gets the ball out quickly---he impressed me vs OSU.   Reason?  I think we may have a tough decision to make about Bryce in 2 years--will he be worth $60m?  That decision is a lot easier if you have been grooming a backup for 2 years who can play. In round 1: I am hoping for PSU's edge Abdul Carter In round 2:  I would like to see us grab a DT who can rush the passer.  Walter Nolen of Ole Miss is versatile and a bit raw. I think he could be an excellent complement to Brown. In round 3:  I would love ILB Danny Stutsman from Oklahoma.  He is a beast. With 11 picks, I would package our 4th rounders to move up into the third round and take a QB.  At the moment, I think Rourke is trending upward and he has the skills Canales seems to want in a QB.  Quick processor, quick release. I would use the fifth rounders on OL.  I know that I left out WR--however, we are getting Thielen back, XL will be improved, Coker will be improved, and Moore has been surprisingly good.  Sanders (TE) has been more than expected in the passing game.  I think we need D more than WR, and maybe we can get a veteran WR to sign or find a hidden gem late.
    • Wouldn't be surprised if he starts a couple Jets games this year with the way the Rodgers thing is going. Giants fans are pissed they didn't keep him lol. He might actually have a little bit of a market.
