The best part tonight. I watch the games on MLBTV through my Playstation 3 and went back and watched the 8th inning on the Royals announcers feed, and when Uggla hit the third bomb of the inning one of the commentators just went "... Jesus."

I have no idea what Freddy Gonzalez is going to do when McCann and Freeman get back.

How in the world do you take Gattis or Johnson out of the lineup right now?

This team is fun to watch.

If there is one spot i'd like to see them try and upgrade it is at SS. I'm just not a Simmons fan.

I would suspect that McCann will get a lot of AB's vs Righties, and Gattis will get everything else. As for Freeman, one would assume he would go back to first, Johnson would get the start on most nights at 3rd, and Juan Franscisco will spend time at 3rd/RF/LF whenever J Upton or Heyward need a spell. He will also likely get at least 1 AB per night as a pinch hitter.

This team is so stacked right now its not even fair. McCann, Freeman, Venters, and Beachy are all out with injuries, and will return at some point in the year. Our starting rotation has been very very good, perhaps with the exception of Tehran, but thats fine, hes only what, 22 years old? We also have Pena coming off the bench who has been hitting quite well, and Schafer who provides good speed on the bases as a pinch runner.

As for Simmons, hes not in there for his bat. If he bats over .250 on the season I will be happy with that.

Because of that stellar defense, Simmons ranks at No. 137 on the BBTN 500, and he has the best defensive projection of any player in baseball. Check out the top five, according to Baseball Info Solutions.

It may seem like a bold prediction to designate Simmons as the DRS leader before he has even played 50 games in the majors, but when you look at his numbers from his limited time in 2012, you may wonder if we are still too conservative. Simmons saved 19 runs with his stellar defense in only 49 games in 2012, likely one-third of the playing time he'll receive this season. He had the second-most runs saved at shortstop -- still well short of Brendan Ryan's 27 runs saved -- and the 10th-most runs saved at any position.

So far, Simmons has not shown any real weaknesses in his defensive game, but he is perhaps most effective due to his lateral range. He, Ryan and J.J. Hardy were the only three shortstops to make seven or more plays above average to both their left and their right last season.

On defense alone, Simmons projects to be worth at least three wins every season. He could be a perfectly average hitter and still be one of the most valuable players in baseball when considering his cost and what he provides in the field and on the base paths.

"Simmons has -- yes -- Ozzie Smith-like potential in the field. I don't know if anyone has Ozzie's first-step quickness, but Simmons is close and has a stronger arm than the Wizard."

Anything Simmons does at the plate is purely a bonus. It's never a bad thing to be compared to a guy who won 13 consecutive Golden Gloves and went to 15 all-star games(Ozzie Smith, Career BA, only .262). The future is very very bright for the Braves.

I'm partially worried about the amount of homers the Braves are hitting. I'm kind of nervous that if they go through a longball drought, how will they score?

Presumably the people hitting homers would be hitting singles and doubles.

I fully expect the team to go through their struggles at some point, but even with BJ, Jason and Dan struggling, Upton, Gattis and Johnson have been red hot, and as long as it balances out like that, our pitching will keep us in more games that not.

We will surely see some games the Braves don't score a run, but in those low scoring contest they are never out of it. Our starters outside of Julio have been ridiculous. Unfortunately, he reminds me of Mike Minor from as little as two years ago...catching way too much of the plate and not keeping the ball in the yard. The good news is Minor turned that around quick, but Julio may need some more time in AAA. The problem is there isn't much to replace him with yet.

On the bright side, Freeman looks to be back in Colorado (what's the over under of HR's in that series?) and McCann will be starting a rehab stint soon. Avilan may even miss DL time. Venters back probably sometime after the All-Star Break and Beachy may solidify the 5th starter at the end of the year if it's still on shakey ground.

Braves are currently first in HR's at 29, Justin Upton leads all players. Chris Johnson currently has the highest batting average of all eligible players. Ok trade I suppose.

Braves also have the lowest ERA in the majors. Hudson goes for win 200 in a cold and nasty night in Pittsburgh.

One would hope that would be the case. Usually strikeouts come from power swings instead of contact swings. I'm still a bit uneasy about the number of strikeouts, but I'm confident that Gonzalez will keep them on track.

I don't know what it is about the Pirates, but they always seem to have the Braves number. They actually have been playing really good baseball against the Reds, Cards and now the Braves. Guess they have not entered colapse mode yet.

At least the Nats continue to struggle with those errors, Mets actually look pretty competitive early in the year.

I hope Freeman brings his hot bat back in a cold (and snowy?) series in Denver.

      Personally, I am not sold on Bryce yet--and I do not think anyone is saying they are, but I don't think Ward is on table when we draft anyway.  Not even sure if I would rather have him than one of the later QBs.  I see a lot of potential in Allar, Nussmeire, Rourke, and even Hamilton from Ohio State--Milroe is intriguing, but I am not sure he is an NFL QB.  Ewers is that sleeper who falls and becomes a solid starter. I think that we sign a veteran who has played and we draft one of these project QBs. To your point:  With that in mind, I think you have to take QB off the table in round 1, and if Bryce can string 4-5 games like KC together, we still need to draft a QB in round three or so---I really think Rourke is a great fit for this offense--he is accurate and gets the ball out quickly---he impressed me vs OSU.   Reason?  I think we may have a tough decision to make about Bryce in 2 years--will he be worth $60m?  That decision is a lot easier if you have been grooming a backup for 2 years who can play. In round 1: I am hoping for PSU's edge Abdul Carter In round 2:  I would like to see us grab a DT who can rush the passer.  Walter Nolen of Ole Miss is versatile and a bit raw. I think he could be an excellent complement to Brown. In round 3:  I would love ILB Danny Stutsman from Oklahoma.  He is a beast. With 11 picks, I would package our 4th rounders to move up into the third round and take a QB.  At the moment, I think Rourke is trending upward and he has the skills Canales seems to want in a QB.  Quick processor, quick release. I would use the fifth rounders on OL.  I know that I left out WR--however, we are getting Thielen back, XL will be improved, Coker will be improved, and Moore has been surprisingly good.  Sanders (TE) has been more than expected in the passing game.  I think we need D more than WR, and maybe we can get a veteran WR to sign or find a hidden gem late.

      Wouldn't be surprised if he starts a couple Jets games this year with the way the Rodgers thing is going. Giants fans are pissed they didn't keep him lol. He might actually have a little bit of a market.

      I think we look at both.  I wouldn't mind resigning Dalton for a deal.  He would know the offense and there is no pressure to see what we have in him. Then I wouldn't mind finding a low round rookie with potential.
