Dontari Poe

yes.

We could take a DT simply because the draft is loaded with them, but I doubt we do unless a stud falls. I heard he same comment. We had 3 rookies (Kearse, Fua , and McClain) Shirley, Neblett, and Edwards on IR. You don't mow your grass too early--let them develop. Heck, Hardy had issues and we had problems with tackling from the WLB. Not all the DTs fault. They did get better as the season aged.

DT spot only got better because they began starting players who were better toward the end. We don't have a potentially dominant DT on this team, in my opinion. They are all serviceable at best, God-awful at worst.

I agree a LB is an area of need, but definitely not a MLB. And I'm hoping for Erin Henderson and/or a good prospect or two in the middle rounds like Demario Davis or Nigel Bradham. Don't need to spend a top 10 pick on a backup MLB.

You might want to get ready. I still see Kuechly as seriously in play for our first round pick.

Connor leaving....Senn being released....Davis a big ?

Rivera LOVES Linebackers and it is now going to be an area of need.

However, I am waiting to see how FA plays out. We have not seen a real offseason (FA period) with Rivera at the helm.

Lombardi now has him going to the Bucs at 5 and Morris falling to us in his mock. cant complain if that was to happen.

Would absolutely love that. Then we could target someone like Reyes in the 2nd.

Just watched it, and he says he does not believe he is as good as Peterson. I cannot agree with that. As far as CB and CB skills are concerned, Mo > PP.

Yea, terrible mock by Lombardi. Bucs ain't taking Poe after already investing so many high draft picks in the D-line so recently, and their D-line is better than they played last year in my opinion. They'd be absolutely stupid to pass on Claiborne (or at least take Richardson, though I think that'd be only slightly less stupid than taking anyone else other than Claiborne). Ingram to the Rams at #6 O.o if anything they'd take Coples and have the Tarheel twins at DE heh. But I think they should invest in the O-line, even if the value isn't quite there (which it isn't, after Kalil there's no top 10 worthy OTs). Maybe they're even the team to take Richardson.

I do think the Blackmon to the Browns and Tannehill to the Dolphins are decent picks though.

Rookie DTs struggle, and we may have found something in Shirley. Workout warriors are fool's gold without the tape to back them.

Dontari Poe DT Memphis - 2011 season - 22 total tackles, 1 sack, 0 forced fumbles, 0 interceptions.

Nadamukong Suh - 2009 season - 85 total tackles, 12 Sacks, 1 forced fumble, 1 interception.

That doesn't mention Suh's 24 tackles for losses and that's more than Poe's total tackles for the year.

Memphis played Arkansas St. and Poe looked like crap. Prediction: POE does not go in the first round.

Rookie DTs do struggle sometimes, and I think that may be the case with McClain. I got the opposite impression with Fua though. I see no more potential in him than career backup. I do like Shirley and Kearse, quite a bit actually. But I think Brockers (and to a slightly lesser extent Poe) can be dominant DTs, which isn't something I feel about any of the DTs on our team.

And I'd bet money Poe does go in the first round, likely top half.

And I agree that we need a dominant DT. Someone to draw double teams. We really do not have that person right now, so I def see your point. I watched Fua game clips at Stanford, and I was wondering what we saw in him. Still wonder. RR is high on him, for whatever reason. If things stay the same, I see the DT position this way:

Shirley and Edwards starting. McClain and Kearse rotating in. Fua is the odd man out.

I think Poe is going to fall on draft day. No way anyone watches his film and pulls the trigger. Maybe someone buys the hype, thinks they can coach him up--That is not a healthy mindset for a first round pick. Friendly bet--I say second round, you say top 16. Most agree with you, but I think, had the combine not been televised, nobody would be talking about Poe.

I think we have the run stuffers now. Kearse, Shirley, and Edwards--We need a 3 tech who can shoot gaps and collapse the pocket--McClain in year 2? I think they like Brockers' upside, but I like Still or Cox better if we need a 3t. I would trade back, however, and take the one that falls.

I wouldn't risk money betting on NFL talent evaluaters and coaches. They fall in love with athleticism all the time and make dumb decisions. I wouldn't be surprised if someone falls in love with Poe (and Brockers for that matter) I just hope it's not us.

Edwards and Shirley are both run stuffing NT's. You would NOT start them together.

Likely to be Edwards and McClain/Neblett starting. Shirley and Fua backing up Edwars.....McClain/Neblett (the other one) backing up the starting UT.
