The odds of Beason coming back like he was, are not that good

but I've read that study as well and most of it was taken from like 2007. Arthroscopic surgery is literally the fastest progressing field of science in the world. Just think about ACL surgeries in the last 5 years.

DeMeco Ryans also didn't have an offseason to workout with his team's doctors because of the lockout, and he came back into a new 3-4 system, where he was bound to share tackles with the other ILB, whereas before he was only a 4-3 MLB.

Also, Ryan Howard tore his Achilles in October of last year during the Major League playoffs. He's ready to go right now. I know it's not a football injury, but all reports are that he's healthy (other than a surgical incision that isn't healing up, which they're not sure about).

The injury will be fine. Will it take some time for him to get back where he was? Sure. But, Beason's young enough, will have had almost a year with doctors since the injury, and hopefully will be behind some DTs that allow him to play freely.

I am sure everyone is a a case-to-case study. I am worried about it but I am not going to look at DeMeco Ryans and think that's what's to be expected.

I am not too sure that's the case. He is going to miss some of the season IIRC.

This. Using past years study for a procedure that is basically changing by the day is not an accurate portrayal of the situation. It could very well be true, however if this is a veiled argument for drafting a certain BC linebacker I think that's not cool.

Takeo Spikes: injured week 3, missed 4 games the following season because of hamstring injuries

Demeco Ryans: injured week 6, defense also switched to 3-4 scheme

Jon Beason: injured week 1

Does every linebacker really relate as solidly as the article would have you believe?

I'm not just going by the article and Fiz is right, the Arthroscopic field progresses at a high rate. Nor is it soley a reason to draft Kuechly or in any way saying that Beason can't come back this season. The odd's are highly stacked against him coming back 100% this upcoming season, more likely Beason will be back to 100% in the 2013 season.

As for the players listed, they are all LB's who all suffered the same injury, the toughest injury to recover from in football for a LB.

Also, It's March and Beason literally just finished with Pool sprints 6 months later.

I'm sure that if the training and coaching staffs were really worried about the injury, Dan Connor would have a huge contract waiting for him, to make sure that he doesn't leave Carolina.

Obviously the staff has enough faith in the doctors and in Beason's health that they are allowing Connor to test the free agency waters.

Did you actually read the article. It only includes achilles injury versus a healthy control group so Spikes is irrelevant. It also noted that the majority of players in the study were injured before the season started or in the first month of the season much like Beason.

Again if this were about Ryans you might have a tangential point but this covered 31 injuries over a period of a number of years.

This reminds me when I worked with teenagers. I could tell them that 95% of the time this is what would happen, and all 100 of them would believe they were in the 5% of exceptions.l

Just like last year when they were sure Davis would come back and even let him do things early. Oh that makes me feel even better.........
