The odds of Beason coming back like he was, are not that good

I was doing some research on another thread about the need for a inebacker in the draft and I came upon this article. It is about DeMeco Ryans but it mentions a 2009 study of NFL football players. The synopsis for those who hate to read is that roughly 66% of NFL athletes who have Achilles surgery return. But when they compare the 3 year pre-surgery stats with the 3 year post surgery stats there was a 50% rduction in power ratings which for linebackers was measured as interceptions and tackles. Even more problematic was that linebackers showed the biggest reduction of all groups on both the offense and defense.

So is it going for Ryans? In 2007-2009 he averaged 121 tackles a year. Last year it dropped to 64.

http://blog.chron.com/texanschick/2011/08/a-medical-view-of-demeco-ryans-recovery-from-injury/

Historically linebackers have a 95% reduction in their power rating for the 3 years after surgery.

*There was a 95%, 87%, and 64% postinjury reduction in power ratings for linebackers, cornerbacks, and defensive tackles over the 3-year period

*Linebackers suffered the greatest reduction in power ratings of all types of players, both offensive and defensive

Anyone still not worried at all???

I know a guy who is one of those health nuts and workout warriors....he tore his. Never was the same athlete after that. He still competed and did his triathlons and all his freakstuff.....but was never the same after it.

the human body is the human body....Beason has more cash and potentially better doctors but that alone doesn't give him odds that make it almost a certainty he will be the same guy.

I was looking through the stats you provided and I didn't notice any on Beason.

Oh yeah, cuz it hasn't happened. Good luck proving irrelevant stats are less bullshit than faith.

Also, using Demeco Ryans as an example? Shame on you Panthers55, you should be better informed.

Can compare one individual to another until you are blue in the face. Im not a fan of it, where you guys keep your crystal ball?

How about we give the guy a chance? I hope rivera is smart enough to have a plan in case.

You can also use Takeo Spikes as an example for a torn Achilles as well, tore his Achilles back in the 2005-2006 season. Took him three seasons to get back to being close to what he was before the injury. Ryans looked sluggish and less explosive last season as well. It's by far the worst injury an NFL player can get and I've never seen anyone come back from it and be the same the next season. It usually takes a couple of years at least.

Takeo Spikes: injured week 3, missed 4 games the following season because of hamstring injuries

Demeco Ryans: injured week 6, defense also switched to 3-4 scheme

Jon Beason: injured week 1

Does every linebacker really relate as solidly as the article would have you believe?

Oh so let me get this right. Although there is a NFL study covering a number of years and is factual and scientific based that says that of the 66% who return, most play at a reduced level we should ignore it because Beason's information wasn't included. And the fact that linebackers are the most affected shouldn't be a concern at all and using DeMeco Ryans who returned last year was a bad idea.

And that I am uninformed because I used a medical study and you used your own opinion.

alrightly then......................

I stand corrected then. Nevermind folks, ignore that huge pink thing that looks like an elephant in the room. Go back to laughing at the Saints......

Nothing to see here, nothing to worry about..........everything will be fine. Davis and Beason will come back better than new, because some people on the huddle said it would be so...

    • 38 seconds in tells me he is full of poo and is spinning for clicks. You know how they say in court, where if they lie once you can assume they are lying always?  To me is doing a pretty spiteful thing I think, by putting those words in someone's mouth. Unless he knows that is true. Which I doubt. An honest person would not have said that to Tepper, so he basically assaulting Canales. It is not Canales' fault that Young will not adhere to the the coaching he was obviously given. And of course I am referring to that Buffalo series and the very noticeable footwork change. Evidence that he had the opportunity to be a better player but reverted to his wonky ass 'techniques'. Because it is fuging hard not to. But that is still on Young for not getting that done. And unless he gets it done he is just a fraud. A wannabe NFL quarterback, playing at it. I mean NFL quarterbacks are kicking his ass, even the rookies.  If he works to change this steadily he may be able to get it ingrained in a couple more months. That is as optimistic as I can be for him.  Riddick though, I don't don't listen to sports talk any more except what youtube clips I like but I used to think pretty highly of him. This is pretty sad, to see this scapegoating.  I can put words into Canales mouth too: "Mr Tepper, I have a pretty good feel for working with these guys, and have had some luck with it. You know Baker pretty well. That's my work with him.  But I have to be honest, I'm not sure i can promise I can fix Bryce. He has many challenges. There are things we can do to help but so much of it is up to him. If he is willing to listen and work, I am sure we can make him a better QB. How good will be up to him."   blah blah blah blah
    • Can they play QB? And some stuff from Ride the Lightning, too?
    • When dementia gripped my grandmother (and eventually took her), we each spent time with her and would try to correct her to what was reality and what wasn't. It was very tough on my Dad who she lived with for as long as they could care for her.  It seemed like she had become detached from her own timeline and would slide up and down it wildly. As my Dad said, "somedays I'm me to her, somedays I'm my Dad, somedays I'm her father, somedays I'm just the guy who works here. I tried correcting her but it just upset her. I found out that the best thing is to just not correct her and let her live out where ever and whenever she is."  And I'm not going to lie, it gets tough and eventually they leave their own timeline and it becomes unmanageable. Hold on to yourself and the ones you love through it all. Prayers for you and yours, man.
