Poe is Mayock's top DT

fwiw, most Buffalo fans will say Dareus made a huge impact this year. By the numbers, he had a good year for a DT even if he wasn't Suh...

Suh was beyond just "impact." He basically transformed the defense. That isn't something we are likely to get where we are picking. There are no DTs at this level this draft.

Which is why I have crossed it off my list. If we do go DE, I would like Ingram. Play rush end on passing plays while he learns the Will position. Hardy, Edwards, CJ, and Ingram. I see potential in that corp.

I just want our first two picks to contribute. It is just another key for improvement. Get a couple of returning injured back on the field, we are improving some more. A full year of experience, and a full offseason, should also bring about some improvement.

The future is bright. But with a little luck, and a productive draft, the future could start this year.

I love all this speculation. My giddy is in overdrive. And GOOOOO CATS!!!!!!!!!!1

I don't see us picking up any DT's in the draft unless Rivera and co. feel he is a rare talent whose success rate is highly likely. He has been high on our young guys there, despite fans perceptions (misperceptions?) of them. We have Edwards coming back, and he should at least be solid (a reasonable expectation considering his history), as well as several young guys that played decent and showed that they're worth developing.

Also don't forget, when we need pressure up the middle, CJ has proven to be effective there in key situations. And with Rivera specifically stating improving our pass rush as a primary need, I can see us adding a pass rushing edge rusher in the second that (along with Hardy) would allow us to get pressure from the outside with CJ providing the inside rush on obvious passing downs.

So unless Rivera sees a rare talent, I just don't think a DT will be taken in the first...no matter how many fans become irrationally infatuated by one.

I think he will give Poe a very close look. He seems to be ideally suited as a 3 technique tackle in our 4-3 who can also play the 5 technique DE in a 3-4 scheme as well. I think he may be better suited closer to the edge where he can use his speed. He really gives us the best of both worlds. I just don't know how long it will take him to learn better technique and develop the stamina to go strong all game. We might not want to wait preferring to take a more finished project or go a different direction. It would be nice if e didn't have so many needs at this point that we could develop players over time.

Oh, I have no doubt that we will give Poe, Brockers, and even Cox a very close look (maybe Still as well). Poe just worries me because he seems to be a career underachiever, and I question his drive to get better. It's been reported that he loves the weightroom, but some question how interested he is in the rest of it. I don't question that he has the physical attributes to be a very good DT, but his history makes me question if he's more workout warrior than football hero.

With that said, if we do take him, I am confident that Rivera has thoroughly checked him out and feels he adequately answered those questions.

Poe has stated just the opposite, that he wouldn't be motivated at all to lift weights if it were not for football. He loves football, but doesn't really care for lifting weights.

Talk is talk.

Football is football.

With his physical tools....and his competition he should of been a better football player to be considered drafting him that high. Lots of players have had ideal physical tools....and never been ideal football players. Some are trying to paint him like a JPP of DTs but despite being raw his freak skill showed up on the field often in college

I don't think Poe should be drafted in the top 10. I believe Poe was being honest when talking about loving football and not the weight room. From what I've seen Poe was good against the run, very good rushing the passer from DE, and below average at rushing the passer from DT.

I do not have game film so I cannot make an informed opinion.I watched the combine and he was amazing....and then I hear people on the board and TV that his game film was not that impressive against weak opponets.I dont know what to believe.

no one on this forum has seen his game film. That's what's so funny about it.

They watch some highlight, or a bowl game, and spout off based on that.

sometimes people go overboard with the "you don't have the gametape therefore you can't possibly know anything" angles......as well as the "you aren't paid for your opinion and therefore know diddly poo". Our GM was a lowly reporter at one point. You don't have to be Jon Gruden to have a valid opinion.

I have watched every game Brandon Thompson played in college with the exception of 3. Sometimes a fan can follow a player his entire career and be more informed than a TV personality that hand selects one or two games to watch.

Poe might have had a great combine but im sorry he will not be a better football player than Brockers. You can just tell that Brockers has that Football size and speed needed to be a disruptive force on the defensive line. Brockers may not be that big of a factor year 1, but i can see in year 2 a big jump and year 3 being a disruptive force in the middle.
