I thought we should have used the tag to trade him, but even if we were stuck with him, at least our depth wouldnt have been so bad.

If you havent noticed, our LB core is seriously fuged up right now.

The franchise tag is a $9M tender for a LB. You want to eat up $9M in cap space for a decent backup MLB?

If he signs the tag, he's guaranteed that $9M. Sure, we could try to trade him, but do you think any team is going to be willing to give him a contract with $9M guaranteed money? I doubt it. If not, there's no reason for him not to play out the season with us under the tag leaving us with a backup MLB with a $9M cap hit.

That would leave Connor as our 5th highest cap hit behind only TD, CJ, Gamble, and Gross.

No thanks! Let him shop around, offer him a decent contract for a backup LB and if someone is willing to beat it or give him what he perceives as a better opportunity, wish him luck.

And if he had chosen to sign the franchise tag, he would have been paid Top Five money for LBs league-wide.

That would not have been a wise use of limited resources. Its kind of like the old saying about guns... don't point a gun at someone unless you're willing to use it.
