Negotiations between the Detroit Lions and Georgia quarterback Matthew Stafford have intensified but as of Wednesday night there was no deal, multiple sources said.

The Lions want to have a deal in place for the draft's first selection before Saturday, and they have narrowed their focus on Stafford, Baylor tackle Jason Smith and Wake Forest linebacker Aaron Curry. Curry's agents met with the Lions in Detroit over the weekend and left with confidence they would be able to work out a deal with the Lions.

NFLTA is reporting that they plan to have a deal in place by the draft

Personally I like the fact that Curry has stated publicaly he wants to be a Lion, at a discounted rate form last years number one. Wants to get to Detroit and make it work. That's the kind of kid I'd want to draft.

Eh if I was gonna be one of the top 5 picks I would want as much money as possible. Especially if I was a LB, most dont last but 5 years in the NFL.

I think they should take Curry with the first pick and then an OT with their second first rounder. Get the QB next season and build up the lines on both sides of the ball. Making it easier for the QB to come in next season and be successful.

i agree...i just dont know if they would actually wanna go another year without a qb...the fans could get a bit ancy....but yea the qb class next year is far better

I think they should take Curry and an OT later in the 1st. Dante Culpepper can win some games this year with protection and an improved defense(however slightly it is). And then next year draft one of the big 3 likely to come out at QB. This is my opinion simply because I think Stafford has been overrated from the beginning.
