Also, is there a particular way you would not want to take somebody out? (i.e. choking someone to death, or stabbing, or shooting someone?)

I've found that I act on instinct when faced with extreme situations, so I would probably have no problem shooting someone who threatened me or others. Later, after the incident I'm sure I'd get hit with a flood of emotions, but in the moment I wouldn't hesitate. But like others posted, I would try to avoid killing, I'd try to incapacitate. I have a hand gun and pair of hand-cuffs at the ready in my apartment... if someone were to break in, I'd rather give the Cops a warm body than a cold one.
