If we pass on DT in rounds 1 and 2 are we destined for failure on defense?

hi i'm panther4life and i'm going to start an OP talking about how DT isn't really a need using a bunch of terrible analysis, and then ignore when people post valid counterpoints that i can't wrap my head around

I Already understand what you think of my opinion. This is the panther forum, ignore the thread or answer the question. If you refuse to answer and only care to be an internet gangster, zod made a special forum for you called the smack forum.

so you don't think the fact that the interior line gave up more total offensive yards than Munnerlyn did is a valid argument for DT being one of our biggest needs

really do you think analysis of the Lions/Saints game in the playoffs is a more relevant argument than this?

To my knowledge there is not a total for Capts yards. So, you may not want to use that as a rebuttal. Just a suggestion from an interwebz friend.

The example was of how great DTs do against quicker 3-5 step drops. Offenses that can utilize this strategy can negate a great pass rush. The result being. The offense has a lot of plays. Can get down the field, and with a competent QB, can score points. Damm near impossible to stop any offense that can employ this system.

Sometimes a great line means poo. Other times it can take you anywhere.

Why so personal? Just us fans getting together and yakking Panthers. If you have something of import to impart. By all means share. I can take it. I had two older sisters, and I have been married a loooong time. (LOL -- just in case.) Once the numbness sets in, is when you have the most freedom.

I have a brother in law who has done/seen/been there, or knows the person who did. You cannot possibly win against these types. Your best outcome is to work for a draw, by conceding a point and hoping he reciprocates. Try that in here and you get your lunch taken away.

Point being, especially in the social media, there can only be one smartest one. Chances are pretty good, it is not you.

Ten days to the draft. Can the Huddle(rs) weather the storm? And GOOOOO CATS!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, there is. Websites such as PFF and FO which deal with advanced football stats record them, but you need to have a paid account on their website to view them. They still disclose some stats to nonmembers and they had a whole analysis on corners after the 2011 season, and posted a table displaying the top ten corners in yardage given up. Munnerlyn wasn't on the list.

Say we take a CB AND DE in the first 2 rounds and add no names discussed so far in free agency. What does the mean for our D if our starting tackles come from our current roster?

I think that Ron Edwards will give us much better play at the NT position than anyone was able to do in 2011, so it's pretty likely that, barring injury of course, the unit as a whole performs better in 2012. It's also probable that the overall defensive play improves a lot just with the return of Beason, and possibly Davis. And who knows what changes may come with replacing Meeks with Wilks?

So it's not all about the DTs and drafting one high. We could be a lot better than last year either way.
