It does not matter the LB or DB we draft if the QB has all day to sit in the pocket. No one can cover guys without any pressure up front.

We could have Luke and Claiborne on our team but if we give Drew Brees 5-7 seconds in the pocket he is still going to pick us apart.

Guys like Drews Brees don't take 5-7 seconds in the pocket usually. Their offense is predicated on 3 and 5 step drops and getting the ball out quick. So rushing him is a good idea but folks rarely sack him a bunch. Your better bet is doing what Fox did pretty effectively. Keep everything short and in front of you, make them work hard to get it down the field and try and make a stop or get a turnover along the way. So the need for a push up front is no greater than a need to play runningbacks like Sproles and TEs ike Graham very tightly in zone or man under coverage.

You do realize what you saw last year wasn't actually the JJ defense right? You do know how huge the LB play is in implementing that? Pressure in the JJ 4-3 isn't created the same as some of our prior schemes

If Coples was a complete headcase I would rather him than any other player. I can get on the Luke bandwagon. I just don't seem him as this generational type player everyone is describing.

he was in coverage as well, being that OLB just dont come after the QB but have to drop into a zone too.(ususally the flats) than last year he was in a zone in the middle of the field and did come on some late blitzes. he has shown the ability to cover backs and TEs and play under some WRs while at Cal. so again he would be better fit because he has done everything Luke has, plus brings more to the table because he has shown he can get after the QB.

No he wasn't good in zone look at the analysis. Find me one that says he was good in zone instead of your opinion. As for getting after the quarterback he had 2.5 sacks but no quarterback hurries. So that usually means he tackled a QB who was trying to run moreso than being great attacking the QB. He is a poor man's Kuechly who has good measurables except height and instincts.

You watched every BC game? I doubt it. I watched him when the played NC State...he was everywhere. Great college LB. Helluva tackler.

Has he reached his full potential though? I think he's already playing at the top of his game. My opinion obviously differs. If he's the pick I'm fine with it (like i have a choice :)) but I'd prefer a DL/CB and a LB in the second.

when Boston College did send him on blitz's last year he was effective, he got a few QBH on the few blitz's they sent him on. While Kuechly may not have an elite burst when blitzing, he's very smart and instinctive.

As for the talk about Kuechly not being that great in coverage, he had 17 PD and 7 INT in three years of play. You don't get those kind of number's being just ok in coverage.

one thing i see in this guy is because he is so good at controlling everything in the middle of the field, he makes it safer and easier to blitz.

i have no doubt whatsoever that he is quite capable of doing it. he's shown he can get to the backfield with little problem and that he's quick at diagnosing and reacting to play on the field.

i just believe that he wasn't asked to do it only because he was too valuable in case the blitzers got burned. his talent at controlling the action in the middle of the field allows you to take more risks. he's the kind of player that makes everyone around them better and more productive.
