If you want a DT in the draft, read this and then tell me why you do

I meant passing yards against Munnerlyn vs. rushing yards against the interior line

as Fiz mentioned the stats against him specifically produced like a 129 QB rating. As bad as he performed though the middle of the defensive line performed much worse

Yeah from a passing point of view he was pretty awful as a 2 corner. He seemed a little better as a nickel but still gave up too many penalties for pass interference. I like his heart but not much else.

Oh yah. A post to try to tell us we don't need a defensive tackle, and the argument is a game we didn't even play?

Involving a different 4-3? Say it ain't so.

I've said from the beginning, the team will prolly draft BPA.

That will probably a lineman of some kind.

Do i want poe? You bet i do. Will i make weak ass arguments to argue why we should get him over another position?

No. What would be the point?

didn't Kevin Smith come back from working at Radio shack to put up like over 200 yards against us?

Dumb thread just got dumber. ;P

No, you see this one time when the Giants played the Eagles, Brandon Jacobs scored a touchdown running at Trent Cole's side and Eli Manning threw a touchdown against Asante Samuel, so you see drafting a DT is just a luxury for us.

If Brockers or Poe would have played to their hype in college ..I would say take them but it appears to me we have Poe who has an amazing combine but was a 2nd team in his conferance.

It certainly explains why people say do not draft on combine results rather on game film.WE do not need another project at DT...bring in a vet

I'm assuming your central thesis is the Panthers need to address the corner back position more than the defensive tackle position in the draft.

All you had to was read the tl;dr version to know that

This assumes:

1. the draft is the only means of improving a team (it's not)

How many starters do we have on the team that were not drafted? Ron Edwards would have been one last year if not injured but that's it right there. So while its not the only way,its the preferred way by THE GM and owner of the team.

2. there's nothing to consider regarding the relative value of a player signed through free agency to plug a hole v. drafting one to have long term (which there is)

Well we have 2 2nd year players coming back next year, plus Neblett. At least one will pan out imo and I think Edwards can hold down the other spot for the next 2 seasons.

Aside from P55 nobody on here made a decent attempt to explain to me how they can justify taking a DT over a CB in the draft, granted I still disagree with him. Most people who saw the thread title ,blew a gasket because I don't agree about DT being our biggest need in the draft. So instead of reacting rationally they skimmed through what I wrote and made silly assumptions and took half of it out of context. I even made a quick tl;dr version to spare them from reading an opinion they hate to see.

An approiate, intellegent response would be I disagree and here's why. Instead a handful of posters come on here and gang up with responses that were worthless and then and pie and rep each other revenge of the nerds style.

you are assuming your original post had a leg to stand on.

Then act all offended when nobody agreed with ya.

oh god it's all a huge conspiracy everyone is against me

I feel strongly that DT is not the need in the draft that many think it is. So I try to help other assumed panther fans understand that without being a dick about it. Nobody came on here and tried to help me understand that its not without being a dick about it or even making a decent argument that it's the case. Therefore I wasted my own time and will refrain from doing so in the future, starting now.

I don't think that DT is the biggest need for a few reasons.

How long it takes to develop in the NFL as a DT is the major one, also I really like Kearse and McClain and think they will end up developing nicely into really effective starters.

My other reason is that I don't see a DT in the draft worth a top ten pick.

Your argument however was horrible and is based off of cherry picked data and games involving other teams that run completely different defenses. If you wanted intelligent answers you should have put more thought into your original post and posted some stats that actually have a bearing on whether the Panther's need a DT or not.
