Saints Franchise Breesus

Could the Saints be any more stupid?

The correct answer is, yes, yes they can be more stupid. Breezing2anotherSB is, by himself, proving that.

You gotta feel a little sorry for the twerp tho. I mean he's watching his team implode right in front of his face. His team went from being an NFL darling to quite possibly the most loathed team in sports. The disgusting nature in which this joke of a front office conducted themselves these past few years will forever go down in sports history.

I mean you have to feel a little bad for this swamp bowl dwelling trash of a society right? Right?

The Saints are expected to be about $6 million under the salary cap after Brees' tender is accounted for. That's a fluid number, and there are many ways the Saints can create more cap space before free agency begins on March 13. Regardless, they will obviously be facing a tight squeeze while also facing the daunting task of re-signing key free agents like guard Carl Nicks, receivers Marques Colston and Robert Meachem and cornerback Tracy Porter.

So 6 mill left in cap space will be enough to make Nicks the highest paid guard in the league, along with securing Colston, Meachem and or Porter? Me thinks they're screwed.

He won't ever play under that tender though, so you have to add at least another 3-4 million on top of the tender at least. They can save about 4-5 million with Will Smith's contract being restructured.

Then there are draft picks to sign, if Goodell leaves them any and those key Free Agents they'll be adding to the team. ;)

    • Qbs aren't defined by physical abilities. Brady, Brees, Manning, Montana, Warner,.....doesn't seem to correlate.

    • If we are going to spend the money anyway, maybe the signing is not as bad as it seems.  Mays outperformed Corbett (before his injury and if you go back to last year, Corbett has been below average) and then Christensen took the job and Mays quickly took it from him and never looked back.  He could use improvement reaching to the next level (LBs) but picking up stunts and blitzes---he was surprisingly good.  Run blocking needs some work, but he is 25.  Corbett, in my view, should be G/C depth and if Mays steps back, he is there.  Mays should start because this team is building for the future and 30 year old players are not building blocks.  We shall see.  That is how I think about it, but there are many factors we do not know. Having said that, I like what Zavala is doing, and I do not want to bring in someone who would take opportunities away from him.  Zavala was really good at RG down the stretch, and in limited duty, was awesome. In fact, we have a guard from the PS who played briefly and did well, but he only played a few plays.  He is 25 and I recall that fans of his former team were upset when we signed him.   Maybe as the backup center only (Corbett).  You need 2 centers to run practices efficiently.  I cannot say enough about the OL coaches on this staff.  What they have done is overshadowed by the Lewis / Hunt signing.  Mays, Ekwonu, Zavala--impressive growth.
