CTP post combine mock

I'm going to include two trades in this mock. Highly unlikely that they will happen, but if the draft falls this way, it could happen.

In the first trade, I'm assuming that Washington winds up trading up for RG3 and Cleveland doesnt sign Flynn/Manning/whoever else in free agency. We give Cleveland the 9th pick(where they move ahead of Buffalo, KC, and Seattle who could possibly take a QB). In return, we get the 22nd pick, 37th pick, 2013 2nd round pick, and a 5th round pick. In the trade value chart, we win out in this trade...

9th pick = 1350

22nd pick = 780

37th pick = 530

1350 - 780 - 530 = 40

the average 5th round pick is in the 30's so that leaves about 10 points left. In the past, teams trading up for a QB that high give up a good bit extra, so that is where I get the 2013 2nd round pick from. maybe I'm wrong with that, but who knows.

So at 22 we could have a choice between Janoris Jenkins, Dontari Poe, Fletcher Cox, Devon Still, Michael Brockers, DeCastro, or a DE like Mercilus. I'm beginning to not like Jenkins in the 1st due to the character issues...(How will he react to that type of money). Out of the DT's listed, I like Poe and Cox almost the same, my favorite changes every day. Lets say that all of those guys are available at #22.

1st round, 22nd pick(from Browns)-Dontari Poe, DT, Memphis

img17492465.jpg

You choose here between Poe and Cox. I like Poe more right now because the wind is blowing 9 mph...whatever. I believe Poe has Haloti Ngata potential with Jason Pierre-Paul athleticism. However, like JPP, I think it will take Poe a year...maybe two to reach his full potential because he is such a raw prospect. Poe would greatly help the terribly run defense he have and should be a good pass rusher for his size as well.

2nd round, 37th pick(from Browns)-Josh Robinson, CB, UCF

josh.jpg

Outside of Morris Claiborne, Josh Robinson is my favorite corner prospect. The dude can straight up ball. Unlike another possible Carolina target, Dre Kirkpatrick, Josh Robinson played about 90% in man coverage at Central Florida and was great while doing so. He has the size(5'11, 199) and speed(unofficial 4.29 forty) that everyone looks for in a cornerback. As a true freshman, Robinson grabbed 6 int's, his sophomore and junior year he had 2. Also, if I'm not mistaken, Robinson shut down A.J. Green in a bowl game as a sophomore.

Another trade. Once again, we trade down with someone looking for a QB. This time it happens to be Seattle, unless they sign Manning/Flynn/someone else in free agency. It would only be trading down four spots, so I'm guessing we could get their 2nd rounder(43rd overall) along with a 5th or 6th round pick. I'll go with 5th.

2nd round, 43rd pick(from Seahawks)-Sean Spence, OLB, Miami

83425890_crop_650x440.jpg?1325358581

Once again, take your pick between players. This time between Spence and Lavonte David. I believe that David will be gone by the time this pick rolls around so Spence it is. We all know how Miami linebackers produce in the NFL and I don't think Spence will be any different. He is all over the field in pass coverage, and is not afraid to step up in run support. I believe he could start at WLB day one should something happen to TD again.

4th round-Brandon Taylor, FS, LSU

My favorite safety prospect other than Mark Barron. Taylor was arguably the best safety in the country last year. He finished with 71 tkls, 7.5 tfls, and 2 Int's. Imagine what the stats would've been like if he didn't play on the same team as Claiborne and Mathieu. Taylor could wind up starting later in the year over Sherrod Martin.

5th round-Matt Reynolds, OT, BYU

Reynolds could give depth at guard and right tackle this season, maybe next as well. He is going to take some time to develop, but when he does, he is going to be one hell of a tackle.

5th round(from Browns)-Chris Rainey, RB/WR/KR, Florida

Forget the "slow" forty time for Rainey at the combine. Official times are BS, but thats another story. Even if he runs a 4.4 again at his pro day, he has the on field speed like none other. He could start at KR and PR from day one.

5th round(from Seahawks)-Jamie Blatnick, DE, Oklahoma State

One of Mayock's sleeper picks. He has the frame to put on another 10 lbs or so putting him around 6'3, 275. Blatnick had eight sacks this season to go along with 13.5 tackles for loss. He could wind up pushing for a starting job next season and should serve as a rotational guy this season.

6th round-Bryan Anger, P, Cal

The best punter in the draft. He may not be available in the 6th, if so, insert whatever other punter/Kicker you like in this spot. Anger averaged 44.3 yards per punt this season along with 18 punts of 50 or more yards. 19 of his punts were placed inside the other team's 20 yard line.

7th round-Chris Marve, LB, Vanderbilt

2 years ago, Marve was projected to be a 1st round pick(like Greg Hardy). Since then, his production has declined as far as stat wise, but he is still one of the top pass coverage linebackers in the draft IMO. Marve could wind up being a rotational and special teams guy this season, with the possibility of becoming a starter in a few years.

Too much trading down in my opinion and not enough value out of the trades, we're not getting enough impact players (only Jenkins out of that draft has a legit shot at starting for us, in my opinion). If we're trading our 2nd round pick we should get a 1st next year for it, would rather that than a 2nd next year and a 3rd this year. I'm on the fence about Jenkins, there's definitely prospects I like in the 2nd more than Reyes, not faimilar with Thomas, Bradham is a solid pick, the rest I have no opinion on.

G-Geoff Schwartz

G-Geoff Hangartner

TE-Jeremy Shockey

DE-Antwan Applewhite

LB-Jason Philips

QB-Derek Anderson

Restructure:

G-Travelle Wharton

CB-Chris Gamble

T-Jordan Gross

S-Reggie Smith

Draft:

Panthers receive: 17th pick, 2nd round pick

Bengals receive: 9th pick

1-Janoris Jenkins, CB, North Alabama

2-Kendell Reyes, DT, UConn

-trade one of the 2nd round picks to a team looking to move up for a QB like Osweiler, Cousins, or Weeden for a 2013 2nd round pick and 3rd round pick this year.

3-Phillip Thomas, S, Syracuse

4-Nigel Bradham, OLB, Florida State

5-Nate Potter, T/G, Boise State

6-Chris Rainey, RB/KR, Florida

6(comp. For Matt Moore/Jeff King)-Donte Paige-Moss, DE, North Carolina

7-Rhett Ellison, FB/TE, USC

A few things wrong here.

1. You can't restrut 89 this is the last year of his deal. To save money with him and gamble you will have to extend them giving them a good signing bouns then back loading it.

2.Not enough value in that trade.

3. Why sign a Safety Then draft a safety?

4. Rainey won't be their in the 6th round.

5. We will have to cut more then just Baker.
