Thoughts on the Saints Situation

At the end of the day, the NFL is about money and image.

The Saints franchise makes money and it will be punished for oh, a few draft picks, a few suspensions, and the world will continue as the money needs to continue.

The players union needs to be heavily involved in this moreso than even the Commissioner as they need to start policing their own. It's player against player encouraged violence and the violence of the game itself is enough. No extra is needed.

Try and enlighten those players that they are hurting and maiming their own and if it continues, the Players Union will ban those who participate in these acts and that will stop this.

I don't need to see players being maimed. I need to see players cleanly tackled within the rules with no extra curricular.

That crap that went on with Steve Smith in the endzone is exhibit A. The Players Union should have stepped up and said, 'play is over and you acted like a thug, that's 4 game checks Roman Harper' and this would stop.

Instead, the Players Union said nothing. To me, they are just as culpeable as the Saints players and management.

I think it would be great if the players police their own but really unions are there to protect the players from the NFL not to police themselves and do what is best for most of the players if it hurts others. I would like to think that in the best case scenario what you suggests happens but I have neveer seen a union do that. Seems they don't want to make any of the players mad.

I don't have a problem at all with what the Saints did. But of course i'm an old school football fan who is/was accustomed to hard hitting football and defenses that made it a point to "knock out the quarterback."

I really don't care too much for todays flag football.

If I didn't care about today's football, I wouldn't be on a football related message board.

That's not what we're talking about here... we're talking about coaches and executives setting up and administering a program to offer players financial incentives for doing it (which is also a violation of the salary cap).

I got it, still don't have a problem.

Unfortunately for Saints fans, Goodell and the NFL have several issues about it. Most likely, they will lay that law down to send a message to other teams doing it but not caught to get their act together.

This last few days have a been total destruction on Saints fans' sanity. First dealing with who they thought to be a class act QB who would take a hometown discount wanting 23 mil a year. And now the NFL about to hammer down a punishment that will have brown bags out faster than titties for beads on Mardi Gras.

I must say. I've had a permi-smile on my face since about 3:00 PM yesterday.

Loosing 2 first round picks is huge tbh. Couple that with fines and probably a 4-6 game suspension for Greg Williams, a 2 game suspension for peyton, 1 game suspension for players participating in this is what I expect.

This isn't going to destroy the Saints. Just put a little hurt on em.

This has to hurt their chances of getting Brees signed by Monday. Which means they franchise him and probably lose some other key guys.

I figure it increases the chances he gets signed. Benson is likely to come riding in and severely limiting Loomis's power in an attempt to show he is in control. They need to rehab their image and keeping Brees goes a long way to do that.

We're not talking about legal hard hits here. We're talking about players getting paid to intentionally end careers of other players. Whether it's during or after the play. Leave it to the dumbass of the huddle, Grits, to go against the grain just to cause an arguement. The more alts he makes, just means my ignore list keeps growing.
