As many of you know I'm a very strong proponent of strengthening the QUALITY of the Panther DLine and making that priority #1 in this draft. I put what we have up against the best in the business. Putting the rosters side by side and looking at how many 1st and 2nd rounders we don't have tells the story of our current Panthers defensive front, plenty of depth, not enough talent. The Giants have made strong investments in their front and it has shown to be the main reason they've won Super Bowls. When the Panthers had a dominant front 4 we went to the SB.

This is why I want a first rounder on the DLine, heck I'd use both high picks on the line if I could just to catch up.

5 UFA's?!? :incazzato:

This tells a story and i actually had this conversation with my brother:

Panthers Offense First Round Picks:

QB: Cam

LT: Gross

RT: Otah

RB: Deangelo and Stewart

DEFENSE 1st ROUND PICKS:

MLB: Beason

OLB: TD ( if he can play )

CB: Gamble

We have 5 very high quality first round selections on offense ( Otah is very good when healthy ) and only 2.5 on Defense ( TD isnt Otah injured he is career threatening at this point )

We need some serious top notch talent on the defensive side of the ball. Nobody should be surprised that the offense is thriving right now and the defense is lacking..

Not to mention our alarmingly low success rate over the last 10 years in regards to second rounder other than like Kalil and maybe Sherod Martin. Richard Marshall is the only player other than those 2 who is actually starter worthy but hes not here anymore so...Our second round picks the last 10 years is bust after bust..Dont even go looking hide your eyes if you see any of the names like Nelson, Colbert, Shelton, Jarett, Clausen OMG!

if you wanna go to the superbowl . better start investing some DL in the high picks. cant win it with what we have right now. said it once, ill keep saying it.

Peppers an Jenkins (04' superbowl) were 1st/2nd rounders. Defense win champions.

I wouldnt mind at all using our first two rounds this year on DL.

Everybody knows I'm a huge proponent of CB and the DE in the upcoming draft and I too would like to cite the Giants as a reason for my stance as well.

05 round 1: Corey Webster (CB)

06 round 1: Mathias Kiawanuka (DE)

07 round 1: Aaron Ross (CB)

08 round 1: Kenny Phillips(S)

09 round 1: Hakeem Nicks (WR)

10 round 1: Jason Pierre Paul (DE)

11 round 1: Prince Amukmara (CB)

http://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/nyg/draft.htm

and the only first round DT (Jimmy Kennedy) the op mentioned was a 1st round pick of the Rams, who signed last year as a free agent and didnt do poo but get suspended for perfomance enhancing drugs.

The only DT they ever drafted in the first since 1976 was William Joseph in 03 and he never amounted to poo and last played their in 06.

Then their most recent 2nd round DT pick Marvin Austin, has not played a down in the NFL, or in college for that matter since 09(suspended his entire senior season).

But wait they had another 2nd round pick DT, in 2010 they picked Linval Joseph who did nothing more than Mcclain or Fua his rookie year. He improved his sophmore season as you would hopefully expect but still he did nothing to note his rookie year.

Chris Canty and Bernard were both free agent signings. Cantys a beast because he can play anywhere on the line and Bernard is likely no better than Edwards at this point in his career.

Drafting stud DT'S is tough. If you do manage to do so its unlikely your going to know you did after 1 season. Especially when you had no offseason/first year coaching staff. So lets not be soo quick to judge Fua/Mcclain.

Hurney nails his first rounders and he has stated several times his goal is to find a player that will give you an immediate impact with his first round selection. He's gotten every year so far out of his first rounders. I just don't see a DT coming in(not in this draft class anyway) and being able to say with 100% confidence that they can even crack the starting lineup much less being an "impact" player for us.

On the other hand if the team draft's a corner in the first (preferably Clairborne if he falls if not Jenkins) you can pretty well gurantee yourself they will make an immediate impact by sending the worst starting corner in NFL (Munnerlyn) to the bench/nickel packages where he belongs. If not a corner I think it will be because they think Coples is the man and he falls to us and he should not have a problem overtaking Hardy.

The Op doesn't care how a team assembles a roster only that they fill said roster with talented people. Since Marty Hurney insists that his top talent comes from the draft our only hope would be to finally make that investment. Do they feel that Brockers is that guy? Is this mountain of a player who is overachieving in the SEC at a young age worth the one year they'll have to invest to make a young guy of his talent great. He did work his ars off to put up very good stats, doesn't seem to need motivation, just a player. They'll know that March 8th. They could go get a CB or a LB but our draft history along with Hurneys philosophy has not been good for our front line. Something has got to give. Look at our roster.

I understand your point 4life

That is exactly why I think it would be brilliant if Marty Hurney packaged and traded that second rounder into a late first rounder. Make a weakness a strength.

I've been saying this for a while, pass rush is second only to great QB play. We haven't had a top 5 DL since we had Peppers/Jenkins/Buckner/Rucker on the field. Draft a DE or DT in the 1st and grab a CB in the second and I guarantee you we'll play much better defense. The thing is that it will take more than one year of this to solve our problems, defensive line depth is as important as offensive line depth.

A similar arguement could be used for every position on the field. Sorry dude that is just the way it is. I could pick a successful team and say they drafted such and such at this round. Lets say i think we need a WR. Lets use the Giants as an example.

Mario Manningham RD 3.

Hakeem Nicks RD 1.

Devin Thomas RD 2.

Isiah Stanback RD 4.

Jerrel Jernigan RD 3.

Domenick Hixon RD 4.

Micheal Clayton RD 1.

Rames Barden RD 3.

Darvin Adams UDFA.

Seyi Ajriotute UDFA.

Amarti Edwards RD 3. (should have been undrafted IMO)

David Gettis RD 6.

Brandon Lafell RD 3.

Legedu Naanee RD 5.

Kealoha Pilares RD 5.

Steve Smith RD 3.

See what i did there bud. Face facts your argument is as useless as a screen door on a submarine. Yeah, we get the NY Giants love to draft DLINE. I get it Buckner, Rucker, Peppers and Rucker was the shiznit. Three 2nd rounders and Pep. Are you kidding me. It's not gonna happen again. It was a perfect storm. Be happy with 3 3rd rounders and hopefully a 2nd round DE. Oh and just to stir the pot. MICHEAL FLOYD would make a good first round pick using YOUR reasoning. We have too many UDFA and late rounders in our WR corp. HA HA.
