M. Colston in FA, how much would he cost?

Regardless, if a deal with Brees isn’t done by Monday, the team will have to use the franchise tag on him. The ripple effect of that is significant because the Saints also have wide receiver Marques Colston and guard Carl Nicks coming up as free agents. If the Saints are forced to franchise Brees, there is a strong chance they will lose both Colston and Nicks, each of whom are looking for about $9 million per year.

of course with the quality of this FA class of WRs as well as this being one of the best WR draft classes ever (some think there are as many as 50 solid WRs in this class) he won't get it. the supply is just too high for any WR to warrant getting that much money.

that said, he's probably going to try to situate himself as one of the highest paid WRs and probably won't mess around with any team offering much less than $8mil a year. i definitely don't see him getting less than $7mil.

there's too much available talent in FA and the draft to mess around with him, though. if he had spent most of his career playing on grass and with a lesser QB he might be more attractive, but as it is it's far too likely that he's a product of a system, great QB, and playing in a dome.

he'll probably be the 2nd or 3rd highest paid WR in this FA class.
