Mock Draft 3.0

I'm gonna get a lot of hate for this draft/offseason. But I think this a realistic and good solution that will make us a playoff team. Not included in this are restructured contracts, extensions, and releases which would clear up cap space and allow us to sign a couple decent veterans. No draft day trades. I just don't see anyone offering enough for us to drop back.

Resign:

Geoff Hangartner

Geoff Schwartz

Antwan Applewhite

Jeremy Shockey

Free Agents:

Antonio Garay, DT

Luis Castillo, DE

Reggie Smith, S

Draft:

Round 1 - Janoris Jenkins, CB

Round 2 - Lavonte David, OLB

Round 4 - Janzen Jackson, S

Round 5 - Ryan Broyles, WR

Round 5 - Terrell Manning, OLB

Round 6 - Russell Wilson, QB

Round 7 - Donte Paige-Moss, DE

With the signing of Garay and Castillo, I feel like we can use the draft to address our other defensive issues. Bringing in Reggie Smith and drafting Janzen Jenkins will bring some young, stiff competition for Martin and Pugh (who hopefully will be cut assuming Jackson and Smith are good quality). Resigning Hangartner and Schwartz and holding onto Otah provides depth for our offensive line. I drafted 2 OLB to help with the pass rush and TE coverage, which will also take pressure off the secondary. Broyles is a guy that has enormous talent and can add depth to our WRs and help with the return game (along with Jenkins). Russell Wilson would be a great fit as Cam's back up despite his smaller size. Paige-Moss is projected as a late round pick, if he is there in the 7th consider it a no-brainer.

Depth Chart:

QB: Cam Newton/Jimmy Clausen/Russell Wilson

RB: DeAngelo Williams/Jonathan Stewart/Mike Goodson

WR1: Steve Smith/Brandon LaFell/Kealoha Pilares

WR2: David Gettis/Ryan Broyles/Armanti Edwards

TE: Greg Olsen/Jeremy Shockey/Gary Barnidge

LT: Jordan Gross/Lee Ziemba

RG: Geoff Hangartner/Geoff Schwartz

C: Ryan Kalil

LG: Trevelle Warton/Zack Williams

RT: Jeff Otah/Byron Bell

DE: Charles Johnson/Donte Paige-Moss/Thomas Keiser

DT: Antonio Garay/Terrell McClain/Frank Kearse

DT: Ron Edwards/Sione Fua

DE: Luis Castillo/Greg Hardy/Anwan Applewhite

OLB: Thomas Davis/Terrell Manning

MLB: Jon Beason/Jordan Senn

OLB: James Anderson/Lavonte David

CB: Chris Gamble/Captain Munnerlyn

S: Sherrod Martin/Janzen Jackson

S: Chris Godfrey/Reggie Smith

CB: Janoris Jenkins/Brandon Hogan

K: Olindo Mare

P: UDFA/FA

LS: JJ

PR: Broyles/Jenkins/Hogan

KR: Jenkins/Goodson

My football acumen and most of my opinions are derived from a slightly annebriated/heavily intoxicated philisophy. That said, I like this a lot. Ideally I would have a vet instead of pickles, a safety other than sherod and a very short bus for donte paige-moss but aside from that I think it would be a productive offseason

Only thing I don't like about this is Castillo starting in front of hardy. I really like hardy. I think he will be alot better than cj. He reminds more of peppers than anybody he's fast as athletic. He's not the freak that is Julius peppers but I think he's a helluva player and is gonna breakout this year and have around 11 sacks. But I really like the mock. U filled major holes and gave us quality depth. Good job

I don't think Jenkins will be there if we trade down toward #20. I don't buy into the report that teams aren't interested in him because of the off-field issues. The Cowboys would take him if he's there. Also, being realistic, I do not see a scenario where we will be able to trade down. The only hope we have is Richardson falling, with I don't think he will.

I like the Mock portion of it, I'm not a big fan of Garay as long as we still have Edwards. He bumps a guy that could develop into something.

Where's Darius Butler?

Eating cheetos.

But on a serious note, I think Hogan will beat him out in training camp. It's possible he'd still be around, just depends on how deep we go at other positions.

I see what you are saying but it's just to much baggage for a top 10 pick. I like him better at 15-20 then I do at 9.

We just became the San Diego Bengals. A team full of players that were former Chargers or have been charged.

Seriously, talent wise, I am with you. I do not like Broyles in any round. I hate the fact that we will give money to head cases and expect them to be professionals. I do not think Rivera has time to keep JJ off the MaryJ and DPM from acting a fool.

    • Getting any level of competition and cohesion out of this roster is a job well done.
    • Not sure if anyone else is watching this D1-AA championship game but I don't know if these receivers have NFL athleticism but they got HANDS. These boys can flat out CATCH. This is a good football game.
    • People on here are wrong all the time. I mean some of our best draft picks people didn't like initially due to various reasons. On the other hand there have been a multitude of decisions made by people who are paid very well to know what they're doing that some Panthers fans here saw as a mistake a mile away. Well look man let's put all the chips on the table. Because your grievance is particularly about the QB position. The Panthers have had only two long term starting franchise QB's in 30 years. Thirty years. Two. This fanbase has seen a hell of a lot of poor to mediocre QB play and even short lived fairy tales like the Kyle Allen win streak or going back even further Matt Moore. As far as Darnold and Mayfield goes I think they are certainly overachieving but I don't think anyone here that was critical of either of them were wrong. They both had a heaping portion of humble pie here that has served them greatly now. Mayfield in particular because when he first got here he was still a cocky idiot. Darnold at least kept his head down and did his job for the most part. But I have a hard time seeing either of them going far in the playoffs because in the midst of some of their best games I've seen the same flawed QB's. Darnold is no Nick Foles let's be real with one another here. Baker specifically looked like hot garbage against our defense in Charlotte recently. And those best teams in the playoffs have all that on film and damn well know about it too if average fans like us can see it.
