Janoris Jenkis IS a possiblity for us?

I could care less about the punch he threw in the game. His past at Florida and general off-field activities/friends are more my concern. Still, I think we have the right coach to keep him in line if they decide to go that route. He has big-time ability.

Still, I prefer Poe at this point.

THis draft is deep with corners and we have Hogan who was supposedly a first or second rounder who fell because of injury but should be fully recovered. So really there is no need to draft a corner in the first or second round. With bigger needs at DT/DE, linebacker, safety as well as corner, I suspect we will pick one up but we can get good value down the line. I definitely don't see us picking up JJ. It isn't like he made 1 mistake, he has multiple issues and after getting kicked out of Florida kept doing it again. How stupid can you be?

I have never heard that and I am not entirely sure that's accurate. I think whoever wrote that must be betting confused being "suspended for a half" because of a previous ejection. He is making it out more than it really needs to be. It's not like NA suspended him for a disciplinary reason.

NA was winning that game before Janoris was ejected too. I heard he was egged on by opposing players from DS.

It was not very clear, and you would think we would have heard more if it had been a bigger deal. I do not know, however, a responsible journalist would say "suspension" and mean "ejection". They are different things. I still do not see the need to take a player with so much baggage in the first round. I find it rather amazing that Jenkins would turn his life around about the same time he is up for a huge payday if he convinces everyone that he is now a choir boy. What a story.

Seriously, he has talent, but do you really think he will not get stupid with a few million dollars? Heck, the draft is risky on talent alone--I am not going to double the risk. Just me, I suppose. Give me character kids like Luck, RGIII, Luechly. I could be wrong, but somebody is going to have to take JJ at his word--I hope it aint us.

I agree with this 100%. Hogan is our pick--we could/should take a chance on one of the small school sleepers later. Another factor nobody mentions--Meeks was fired. Why? All I can say is our DBs were confused a lot. Bad Angles, poor technique. Fundamentally unsound tacklers. RR blames Meeks, I would think, for a lot of that crap we saw last season. Maybe with DL help and some coaching, along with allowing our youth to grow and heal, we are set.

If Jenkins is on our radar, it could simply mean that we are watching his character in the event he drops to the second round. I do not see too many teams in the first round taking a chance on him. People like Randy Moss, Warren Sapp, etc. were better prospects and they nearly dropped out of the first round.

The coach ain't with these kids 24-7, but I agree that RR is not going to play. Still, why bring on the daycare--we need pros like Beason and Davis. Guys that have dedication and heart. Those are the guys you win with. Just my view. He is a talent, but only a value if he falls to the second round and you buy the "I am a new man" theory.

I absolutely love Jenkins' ability. But damn he has a lot of baggage.

Kirkpatrick may have made a mistake. However, Jenkins has made mistake, after mistake, after mistake. He just does not show that he has learned from them. God he really reminds me of Pacman Jones.

Yeah,

Do the Panthers offer daycare for all his kids?

At North Alabama, Bowden said Jenkins put his drug issues behind him and did not cause any problems.

“He came here to right some wrongs and he did a good job of fitting in with our program,” Bowden said.

“Passed every drug test. He never had a drug problem. He never flunked a drug test. He’s not a kid that has a drug or alcohol problem… I don’t think he had a constant drug problem. He was just hanging around with old buddies and made some mistakes. It wasn’t a pattern.”

The only blemish on Jenkins’ last season was an ejection for punching at another player, but Bowden minimized with, “he was a marked man,” and said many opposing players tried to instigate fights with him.

At least do some reseach before making such strong indictments.

• In All Honesty award -- Janoris Jenkins, CB, North Alabama: Rarely have I seen a combine prospect enter the media work room and open a vein for reporters quite like Jenkins did Sunday afternoon in his 10-minute interview session. I'll say this, Jenkins is no Ryan Mallett, the Arkansas quarterback who took the stage in the 2011 combine and defiantly refused to shed any light on the rumors of collegiate drug use in his background. Jenkins turned the spotlight on his own behavior and filled in all the blanks. In detail. If the first step toward overcoming mistakes is acknowledging them, Jenkins is well on his way.

Jenkins, the ex-Gators star, talked about his three arrests, two of them for marijuana possession. He talked about his bar fight arrest. His failed drug test at Florida. Being kicked off the team by new Gators head coach Will Muschamp last spring and winding up at Division II North Alabama. And his four children, all age 3 and under. It was a remarkably revealing Q&A, and he struck just the right tone of remorse and responsibility throughout. No Vontaze Burfict, he.

On Tuesday, Jenkins went out and dazzled the scouts on the field, running a blazing 4.46 in the 40, broad-jumping 10-1 and looking smooth and athletic in all the defensive back drills. He's a first-round talent, and he may have earned himself a fresh look from a handful of wary teams with his stellar combine performance.

I have said it before and this confirms what I have been saying. He is well aware of his checkered past at Florida and has grown up from it. I love how he acknowledge's his past mistakes and learned from them. It would be nice if is history was as clean as The Golden Calf of Bristol's but its not. Thing is he knows he made mistakes and knows why and seems poised to be a better man. He is rehabilitated and I don't know what else he has to do prove it. If he did'nt have superb talent then he would not even be worth this conversation. However he is elite and a proven hard worker on the field. He is now also a proven good citzen off the field.

Then to say the draft is deep and we can wait til round 4 or later is crazy. Munnerlyn was the worst starter on our D, last year hands down. We have to fix that and the best way to do that is take a talent like Jenkins when you can.

Blame Meeks if you want for Hogan doing nothing special but thats silly, since he didnt see the field until late because of injury. Can't use that same approach for Munnerlyn, he's had other secondary coaches. Counting on Hogan would be a big mistake in my opinion. I am not writing the guy off but at the same time 2nd corner position is way too important to just pencil him in.

Per Detroit Free Press and Rotoworld:

Two NFL front office men told the Detroit Free Press that they believe Colorado CB Jimmy Smith was a superior prospect in the 2011 draft to North Alabama CB Janoris Jenkins in 2012.

The two are drawing comparisons because both had significant off-field issues entering the pros, but are starting-caliber talents. Smith is much bigger than Jenkins and just as fast, and projects as a No. 1 NFL cornerback while Jenkins projects as more of a No. 2. Smith was drafted 27th overall by the Ravens. We don't believe Jenkins will be able to crack the first round.

Lions general manager Martin Mayhew, Sanders' friend and former teammate at Florida State, said the team met with Jenkins at the Senior Bowl in January and called him "an impressive young man." Already, the Lions have plans to bring Jenkins in for one of their 30 pre-draft visits.

Much as they did with Smith last year, the Lions will do a thorough evaluation of Jenkins over the next two months and assess whether his character risks are worth a first-round pick.

Smith, by the way, is bigger and just as fast as Jenkins, a superior prospect two NFL front-office men told the Free Press last week despite off-field concerns that included multiple failed drug tests, two alcohol violations and an arrest for assault, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. He went 27th to the Ravens and started three games in a trouble-free rookie year.
