CPF96 Mock draft

This is going to be my last one till right before the draft

DT's take a while to get going and there's nothing really special at DT in this draft, Expect the Panthers to take a flyer on a mid level FA at DT and LB for depth and see what they have with the current crop of young DT's on the roster in Kearse, Fua, McClain, Shirley and Neblett.

9th overall - Riley Reiff, OT

I have a feeling that Reiff falls because 3 QB's will get taken in the top 10 and his arm length. However that equates to a steal for Carolina as he's a highly rated prospect at a position of need and he makes the most sense draft value wise, and will take over at LT in 2 years if not sooner. Reiff is one of the best OT's in the draft at pass protection and is a major need to keep Newton healthy.

2nd round - Markelle Martin, FS

Martin would come in and immediately compete for the starting Safety spot with the other Martin. Has some value on ST's and imo would immediately improve the Panther's secondary.

4th round - Cliff Harris, CB/PR

images?q=tbn:ANd9GcR4x2oiRL-aiFpx5Duk9DxLJDLHJFTmR0O5yoSN5T7oW5H8FLRTXQ

Harris has fallen a bit because of his 4ty and his off the field issues, but at one point had a 2nd round grade. Would immediately provide an answer for Carolina's PR issues over the past few years and would be able to compete with Hogan, munnerlyn and Butler for the other starting spot.

5th round - Emmanuel Acho, OLB

images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSkwIUrlFetzKHYEmbaQ9LANrFBiNUExOCj9PAQ94ETFlr4qx_7QQ

Gives the Panther's some depth at both OLB and ILB as Acho can play both positions. Excellent character and locker room guy who's good in coverage and at defending the run on the edge.

6th round - Russell Wilson, QB

images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSfeKY99OSWC9KpFXPzcpnPQiFXGvruaxS_OkgMP7Mx9SqpkMEf

Provides an excellent backup choice at QB for the Panther's current scheme and would have excellent value in the 6th round. I expect Clausen is gone and the potential for Anderson to not resign is there.

6th round comp pick - Donte Paige-Moss, DE

The panther's take another late round flyer on a guy who before the injury had a 1st-2nd round grade. Moss might have maturity issues, but with Beason, TD and Newton on the same team I don't expect it to be a problem. He's very explosive and has tons of potential as a DE in the NFL and if he shows he's healthy, gives the Panthers a 3rd down pass rush specialist for the coming season.

7th round - James Hanna, TE

No telling what the team is going to do with Barnidge, or what Shockey is going to do. Chud likes to develop TE's and Hanna had an excellent combine showing explosiveness and amazing athletic ability.

UDFA - I'd expect a punter and a few more DL players to be picked up along with a WR or Two and a few DB's.

9th overall - Riley Reiff, OT -No Go Defense May even be able to trade if he is available and get another pick.

2nd round - Markelle Martin, FS - Yes I like

4th round - Cliff Harris, CB/PR - Yes Good Value helps ST

5th round - Emmanuel Acho, OLB - OK Rotation and ST

6th round - Russell Wilson, QB - OK - Bye Bye Pickles

6th round comp pick - Donte Paige-Moss, - He is a dumbass but ok

7th round - James Hanna, TE - Meh

UDFA - I'd expect a punter and a few more DL players to be picked up along with a WR or Two and a few DB's - OK

I hope Richardson, Reiff, DeCastro, Ingram, Keuchly, Upshaw, and Kirkpatrick are on the board when we pick, because it would strengthen the liklihood of a trade. Move down 5 or 6 spots, trading with Dallas or even Philly, and still get good value + a third rounder or so.

Counting Olsen, we could end up with three or four starters from this draft.

There's a lot of rumblings that Carolina really likes Reiff and Martin. If Reiff is there, I'm thinking it's a lock he's picked. If not Carolina will look to move back a bit and select Martin, if they can't move back then Martin would be the pick at 9. I'm going with a 75% chance the first pick for Carolina is an OT. Other 25% chance goes defense if they think the value is there.

hmmm...gt to say i'm not a fan of this at all.

cliff harris and DPM can both be picked up later than when you have them. many teams don't want to bother with them at all. i can't say i blame them.

i'm not a fan of reiff. i'd actually rather have decastro or cordy glenn drafted before reiff and i'm not a fan of either of those guys at the 9 spot. both those guys could play OT as well as reiff, imo (and there are some teams mentioning decastro playing RT). reiff, on the other hand, has teams listing him as an OG on their boards instead of OT.

Yea, because his arms are 3/4 of an inch shorter then Kalil's. Which drops both of them if you want to be honest about it, but no one is going to that. Reiff is one of the best pure LT's in the draft and actually does a few things better in pass protection then even Kalil does.(Kalil is weak against speed rushers because of technique issues) I put Harris and DPM in their updated round, DPM might actually go earlier then that. DL isn't a very impressive class and they didn't do anything to help that image at the combine.

I honestly don't see the team making the reach for Jenkkings or Brockers/Poe at 9, so like I said in the other thread I'd move Keuchly to #9 and draft an OL prospect in the 5th round instead of Acho.

    • We could easily pick apart yesterday’s game: dropped passes, blown coverages, bad tackling and red zone issues to name a few. But it was clear that this wasn’t the same team from earlier in the season. They fought back and hung with the champs until the end. That’s what I was excited to see and it gives me hope that we’re on the right track.
    • I think BY played well today and exceeded expectations. I will temper future expectations as he has to string together many games of consistent quality. One game doesn’t convince me that he is a franchise QB or even a guy you want to stick with for another season. One game doesn’t erase all the negative play and limitations from the past couple of years. I hope he balls out and continues to get better but for me the verdict is still out   That said, I think he gave the team and fans hope yesterday which is a lot more than what we had when we woke up Sunday morning.
    • He was vastly improved today and we need to see more of Bryce the rest of the season to continue evaluate him in order to decide what the heck to do with him at the end of the season. He must play at least like this and improve more from here the rest of the season in order for me to keep him. No more 123 yard passing games and want to see at least this output weekly from him. If this is Bruce improving slowly over time then Canales is even better with developing QB's than I thought he was but still too early to tell and we need to see him the rest of the way as he has at very least earned back the starting gig moving forward.
