Brockers=overrated?

I've felt since the end of the season that we would only take a DT at #1 if Rivera and Co. felt pretty sure that he would be a rare player at DT. After all, Rivera has gone on record as saying that he was happy with the way both Fua and McClain played this season (particularly Fua), and that he didn't see DT as a big need. And if one thing Rivera has shown in his time here, it's that he isn't afraid to call someone out and challenge them if he feels they need to step it up.

So, since we are starting to see some of Brockers' warts and Poe has shown nothing more than being a workout warrior up to this point, I am starting to really think we will go in a different direction than DT. And based on his career production, superior instincts, and the athleticism he showed at the combine, I have a feeling Keuchly will end up being a real possibility for us at 9, maybe even the favorite. Need meet value.

In the pre-season Fua and McClain were literally getting blown off the line worse than Corvey Irvin. Fua got spun around and manhandled so bad that I thought he was going to get a$$ f'd. Irvin was cut immediately, as he should have been. We stuck with the rookies, and there was some improvement during the season, they imporved from terrible to below average. How? They learned the defense, and how to play DT in the NFL. Why were they no better than below average? Their core strength has not reached it's maximum potential, and they hit the rookie wall before their injuries. Next season will give us a better idea of their capabilities.

The Saints are our main opponent in the NFCS. We're not going anywhere with out beating them, and we're not beating them without a DT that can pressure or sack Brees before he has time to throw deep passes. That is the missing component to our team. Our entire chance at making the playoffs and advancing hinges on finding a DT who can collapse the pocket and put the fear of an evil god in Brees. You want to count on Neblett? McClain, a player who has never been good at rushing at any level?

Keuchly seems like a very good MLB. I couldn't give a sh!t. Turn our d-line into QB pressuring torture device, otherwise we'll be watching Saint recievers running fvck wild out there past Keuchly and Beason and whoever the hell else you want to throw out there.

I do not want. And its not his poor showing at the combine that have me down in him. I was like this when he first surfaced out of nowhere. Maybe a LSU fan knew about him but if somebody says oh yeah I knew about him and he's good there crazy. Bc this dude was like an overnight top 10 pick. He's quietly moving towards the back of the first round. Maybe even out of the while round altogether. Do not want but I'd deal with whatever happenes I guess

Its as obvious a hole as QB was for us last year. We have NO first round talent at DT. We have plenty at LB.

By the way Brockers will be here March 8th regardless of what any of you think. Anybody else have an appointment yet?

I know Brockers is going to be here... I'm not surprised either about it.

However, there's a serious question to the Panther's LB core... TD is pretty much done and Beason is coming off of probably the worst injury a LB can have. An Achilles tear is much worse then an ACL or MCL tear. That leaves the Panthers with 1 definite starter at LB and two serious question marks and it's not a need?????

Linebackers are in abundance out there. Big DTs with talent, not so much.

Can you show me some game tape of Brocker's that shows all this abundance of talent that I keep hearing about but don't see? I think the reason Brocker's cam out this year is it's a very deep class at DT, but there isn't really any elite talent. Next year will most likely be a different story, I can think of at least 5 DT/NT that will have a first round grade in the 2013 draft that are JR's if they hold up.

Meh, there is a bunch of You Tube out there on Brockers. Feel free to search it because Im much to lazy to do that for you. Sorry about that.

I read what scouts say on various sites and their opinion on Brockers hasn't changed at all. He passes the eyeball test, he is a very big guy with very long arms. Short armed linemen have a very hard time getting to his body because of his huge wingspan.

He is 6'5" 322lbs probably bigger than most of our D line. Scouts say that despite him being so tall he crouches and leverages that height so well.

His production rivals some of these starters out there he's got like 50 something tackles, like 10 TFL, 2sacks, and an INT as a part time player! If he stays at school he is projected to be a top five pick next year. I didn't make that up!

When you watch Brockers on tape you will see how he is constantly demanding the attention of two or three blockers. I've noticed that as the game goes on he gets more and more disruptive.

DTs highlight videos aren't as flashy as WR or LB but if you know what you are looking for you can see that guy.

there are plenty of DTs with "potential" out there....

DTs also take a couple years to develop most of the time, even ones who are starting caliber. We don't know who is who already on our roster with some many young bodies.

LB is a big part of what we assume Rivera wants to do. We don't have as much young "potential" talent at LB. We have guys coming off BIG injuries

.

If I recall, Fox had a pretty good record against Brees/Payton...not sure he had great DT play during that span.

Brees is also good at getting the ball out quick. Good luck covering Sproles, Graham, etc. with a weak LB corp.

Yeah but there are more fast guys that are 6-6'3" and weigh 220-250lbs in the world naturally than there are 6'6 300lb+ guys. DT is much more valuable. Plenty of linebackers in the world.

Do you think Fua or McClain could beat out a Poe or Brockers for the start? I personally don't think so, and that is a sad thing for the Panthers.

Well, if there are plenty of LBs out there how come Philly and Carolina (two teams trying to runt he JJ 4-3) had nothing last year. I don't think these teams are going to solve there LB problems signing just anyone off the street.

I think people don't realize how raw someone like Poe is...he very easily could be beat out by someone currently on this roster in 2012. Few DTs are ready to go week 1. He didn't dominate C-USA, one training camp w/ Carolina, isn't likely to have him ready to go in the NFL of all places..that is a dream scenario regardless of what potenital he may have.

I can agree with that, I heard of the guy but he wasn't on my radar before his combine. Aside from what we think he will go in the 1st round though.

Miami (bye) 3. Georgia (bye) 4. Arizona St. (bye) 5. Oregon VS 12. BYU 6. Boise St. VS 11. SMU 7. Notre Dame VS 10. Texas 8. Penn St. VS 9. Indiana   That gives me: Oregon/OSU for the third time this year (Oregon) Miami lucking out once again VS Indiana SMU playing cinderella VS ASU Texas/Georgia one more time (Texas)   That gives me: SMU/Miami again (Miami) Oregon/Texas (Oregon)   Oregon then trashes Miami in the finals.
