Running QBs don't win Super Bowls..

I like how this thread was actually supposed to be about how racist it is to lump Cam Newton in a discussion about how running quarterbacks won't succeed while ignoring white successful quarterbacks like the obvious Steve Young and even forgetting to include in the discussion current white players like Rodgers and The Golden Calf of Bristol (who is obviously more of a runner than Cam) just because Cam is black like the other examples given. It was supposed to give people an idea of how the media perceives our quarterback simply because of his skin color.

But "LOL that's not why elway lost omg fail writer" is a good topic too i guess...

I do not usually call that many articles bad, but this one is terrible. #1 Guys like Aaron Rodgers and Steve Young both uses their legs and their arms to move the ball down field. #2 of course Passing QB’s have won all the super bowls (If you count Young which I don’t), but that is because you did not have QB’s in the past with throwing and running abilities like Cam. So it has not happened because the population of those able to make it happen is very tiny if any at all!!!!

Even if you want to compare Cam to McNair, Vick, Cunningham the fact is for every one of those guys there were like 50 QB’s of his traditional style. So if only 1 can win every year yes it is more than likely to be a traditional qb since at the time they made up almost all of the population! But even with those odds, those guys have succeeded and made it to a superbowl or within a minute or a yard of winning it. How many traditional style Qb’s never make it to the playoffs, let alone a superbowl?

Very sad article, I would expect a little more.

I hate to say it but, this article was race driven. The title should have had "Black" in there somewhere with all the bs he's spewing. I'm Hispanic and absolutely could care less about the race of our QB. As long as he's doing this Job and getting us there and WINNING it. He could be purple with penis' for arms and wear spandex.

My prediction: This article will be irrelevant within the next 5-10 years. More an more QBs are going to be in the RG3/Cam Newton mold than the Peyton Manning mold.

Also I have a disdain for the logic that relies solely on the past to dictate how the future will forever be. It takes out any room for evolution.

For a LONG period of time it was also thought that you couldn't win the Super Bowl if you were a team that relied more on passing than running. Everybody used Dan Marino as the basis of that logic. That type of thinking appears stupid now.

In ten years so will that article.

Quarterbacks that can run, but can't pass very well don't win Superbowls.

Fortunately, it seems that Newton can do both. But as he and the offense mature, I don't think Newton will run as much. And that will be a good thing.

Beat me to it.

And no, I don't see this changing. Quarterbacks that are great runners but mediocre passers will still win regular season games but not championships.

Happily that's not our problem. Like Young, Elway, McNair and Rodgers before him, Newton can do both.

If Cam had run for 1k yards and passed for 2k, then this guy might be okay with claiming Cam is a "running" QB, but ffs, the guy passed for 4k yards. Yes, we used him extensively in the red zone, but calling him a "running quarterback" after last season is stupid.

This hack writer lumps Newton, Cunningham, McNair, and McNabb as just "running QBs" just because they simply run as well as pass. But Steve Young isn't one of them. Really?

Here's how to reach the writer: http://contributor.yahoo.com/user/1030264/edwin_torres.html

Or leave a comment. Already gave my response:

This is why many are calling for the sports media to be more intergrated. Way to many of the same folks believing their own ish. The sports media really need some race intervention, especially in the NFL.

As I've said before, the NFL is the only sport that is trying to hold steadfast to dividing race so they can feel better about themselves. Let it go..

I can't believe we're still being made to believe that being athlete and able to run is bad if your a black QB but when it's done by white QBs it simply adds to their talent.

Another thing that bothers me are those who like to use the SB as a barometer for the point about black QBs. When the truth is, there have been three times as many white QBs entiring the draft every season as black QBs. And many of those black QBs end up changing their positions so they can remain in the NFL. And for as many white QBs, there have only been about 44 QBs who have won SB since it's inception.
