What is the best way to improve our pass rush?

How? Get better DEs and DTs. Sorry, but CJ is not a top DE in this league. And Hardy will more than likely never been top 20. Our DTs can't even walk the same field as some of the league's top DTs. Yes, CJ is a good guy to have, but if we paired him with a superstar DE, he'd easily be our #2. So yeah, get a better line if you want to improve it. Otherwise our line will simply be average to above average until the next group comes along.

So what your saying is that if we had a defensive end better than charles johnson, he would be above charles johnson on the depth chart? Interesting...

I think Johnson is in the top 3rd of DEs in the league easy.

DT is important, because without a DT that demands a double team, and can't push the point of attack, the DE get doubled and or chipped and the QB steps up in the pocket or the RB, hits the H gap, what is the H gap? that big ass hole between the DT and the DE, that just got pushed towards the sideline by like 10 yards, that hole, the one that Donald Brown, Kevin Smith, Hightower, Bennie Wells, and CJ1K kept hitting, no of these backs really had any great games until they played us.

So are you saying we have the talent or potential talent to emulate the Giants DL...rush 4 without an elite edge rusher? The Giants did a great job of putting a great front 4 on the field but that is hard to do. Most teams at least have an elite edge rusher. I am not trying to be smartass but trying to visualize how we are going to be able to pull this off given our talent pool and draft prospects

We wouldn't be like the Giants we would be more like the Eagles defense of 5 years ago under Jim Johnson. It isn't just having an elite edge rushing but being able to confuse the offensive blocking scheme and bring more guys than the offense can block at some point along the line. If could be allowing Johnson to go outside while we stunt a linebacker to the inside, bringing 2 guys one direction and sending a corner through the gap it produces. This defense isn't about just getting pressure with your front four although that is the goal of any front four but stopping the run and blitzing on second or third and long. Above all we want to avoid big plays by the offense while creating some of our own on defense.

the Panthers have a lot of pass rushers? Asking someone to do it and being a pass rusher are 2 different things.

We don't have a single great pass rusher. CJ IMO is more an all around great DE. That's what we got. T. Davis is the only other I think you could list and with his long odds at a comeback being successful it is hard to count him in anything.

charles johnson.

Hardy.

Applewhite.

Just to name a few.

Johnson is the only name, but the other guys did impress. They are pass rush specialists. Whether you agree with that or not.

Without a big dt in the middle to take up blockers, no amount of pass rushers are going to be enough. Ya scheme the pass rushers cause there isn't one disruptive enough in the middle to scheme for.

I have already said this but i really wouldnt be mad if we went DT first round and DE second round. A great pass rush just makes everything else easier for a defense and u can never have too many of them. i know everybody says we got "bodies" to put in a rush but the difference between the Giants and other teams pass rush is the fact that the Giants have TALENTED D linemen rushing the passer. There are some great Qbs in the game right now and 2 maybe 3 more bout to come into the league this year. You just cant outsmart QBs now a days with complex passing attacks and rule changes helping offenses. If you wanna win u just gotta line up in the trenches and may the best man win.

Burfict can provide pass rush? I thought it was more like pass walk.

I wouldn't mind Burfict. He did some pretty amazing things in college and showed flashes of greatness. I have said so many times on here that with Rivera as his coach and teammates like Beason, Davis, and Anderson they can really get this guy to play right and keep him disciplined. With that being said, the earliest I'd take him would be the 5th round.

DT pressure up the middle will flush the QB from pocket and make DE's job easier

then add a LB that can cover the Grahams/Gonzales/V Davis of the N F L

Then give Gamble a CB thats as good or better than Gamble

Now you have truly improved the pass rush

I another interview Rivera speaks of the importance of a pass rush.

“Not just necessarily the corner, but the pass rush,” he said when asked about draft priorities. “I think you have to have pass rush. You have to put pressure on the quarterback, as well. So I think it’s a combination or a mixture of both.”

Not trying to read between the lines but it sounds as though he has something or someone in mind. Its sounds as though cb is important but second to a pass rush.
