What is the best way to improve our pass rush?

the team has a lot of pass rushers.

Get a defensive tack that commands a double team, and our pass rush instantly improves.

the Panthers have a lot of pass rushers? Asking someone to do it and being a pass rusher are 2 different things.

We don't have a single great pass rusher. CJ IMO is more an all around great DE. That's what we got. T. Davis is the only other I think you could list and with his long odds at a comeback being successful it is hard to count him in anything.

There wasn't much talent to be had at the DT position last year. A couple of rookie 3rd rounders, one of whom was considered a pretty big reach, and a bunch of journeymen FAs. Our DT play improved considerably once we went with the journeymen FAs.

talent wasn't so much the issue.. technique was, and who do you think teaches technique? your point falls right into mine, why do you think journeymen DTs would be more effective than rookie DTs? they've had more NFL coaching exposure, as well as more time with strength/conditioning...

McClain has real potential to be a solid pass rushing DT with someone next to him taking up blockers and allowing him to shoot he gap.. Fua could end up being that guy, we'll have to see.. certainly last year didn't pinpoint any real conclusion in regards to their ceiling, unless some people want to pretend knee-jerk reactions should be taken seriously...

I agree we do not have a great pass rusher and it may have to come from a lb position.I dont see Couples as a great pass rusher as well but he is rated high as a DE.

now maybe you're just harping on the word "Great" or "a lot of pass rushers", but...

Greg Hardy was a beast early in the season.. go back and watch the games, there is no discussion to have about it.

matter of fact, go back and watch Charles Johnson too because DE (as far as pass rushing) isn't a bigger issue than needing some solid DTs, and our 3rd rounders are going to take more training and strength/conditioning.. that's just the way it is at that position 90% of the time..

Get interior pressure, collapse the pocket, which will get the QB off his spot and drive him towards our edge rushers.

Right now, we don't have anyone capable of consistently generating pressure from the interior of our d-line. Getting Beason back and blitzing him up the middle will help, but you can't do that on every down, we need to find a DT that can collapse the pocket.

Totally agree. Neither Fua or McClain should have been expected to start right away especially with no offseason, training camp, and offseason conditioning program. It was ridiculous to expect them to do much at all and they didn't. Then again few do.

Pick Brockers or Poe in 1st, Vontaze Burfict in 2nd, pass rush fixed.

Burfict has a much better chance of going undrafted than he does of going in the 2cd. No one's stock is falling quicker than his. Considerable character concerns, questionable playing instincts, a horrendous combine, and interviews that were described as "disastrous".

If we could find one DT would would warrant an occasional double-team, it would change everything for us. Ron Edwards might be that guy, which would free up McClain, Neblett and our other 3-techs to get after the QB.

Ron Edwards may have been that guy a couple years ago...he is getting old. At this stage, Ron would be a band-aid while we find someone to play.

This. Edwards was and is a stop-gap. I hope he can help us next season, but him being on the roster should have no impact on our draft. Draft to build for the future, not to try to find a quick fix.

So are you saying we have the talent or potential talent to emulate the Giants DL...rush 4 without an elite edge rusher? The Giants did a great job of putting a great front 4 on the field but that is hard to do. Most teams at least have an elite edge rusher. I am not trying to be smartass but trying to visualize how we are going to be able to pull this off given our talent pool and draft prospects

thats why I like him.

You like that he tested to be a poor athlete for the position, that he struggles to read plays on the field, refused to work within a defensive system, and is an absolute loose cannon?

Why? That just makes no sense. Everything about this guy is screaming "STAY AWAY!!!" If it wasn't for some YouTube big hits, no one would know who this guy is.
