Team needs(PFF)

I believe cornerback should have been first imo, Munnerlyn is just horrible there's no way around it. He's awful as a #2 cornerback, Butler is slightly better but not by much. The jury is still out on Hogan.

i like Munnerlyn, but more as a 3rd corner than a 2nd, that's why i think cornerback is our biggest need, we need someone to pair opposite with Gamble.

I kinda do... He was right about our needs, he just didnt list them all, and not in the correct order.

Safety is argueably our biggest need. Sherrod martin is the worst player on our defense, but the FS position isn't being talked about much because the discussion lately has been mainly on our 1st round pick at number 9.

I will be highly disappointed if Martin is our starter next year.

I disagree Better front 7 better safety play IMO. Bad Front 7 sticks you're safeties on a island so all their mistakes are blown up.

Godfrey isnt as bad as that article made him out to be. He isnt world class, but he is an above average player. He is the best player in our secondary not named Gamble.

The reason Godfrey looked bad this year is because he was over-extending himself to try and make up for Munnerlyn and Martin's mistakes. If he had solid talent around him, he could have focused on his own job instead of running all over the field trying to make the tackles that they missed.

If the

being the 2nd best player in the secondary doesn't make you above average.

2011 was his best year as a pro and he wasn't above average in 2011

Secondary Need: Defensive Tackle

The Panthers have needed help at defensive tackle for a while, and they gambled in 2011 with a pair of rookies starting at the position. Sione Fua (-6.6), and Terrell McClain (-17.3) both failed to show themselves capable of starting in the NFL as rookies, struggling to varying degrees, and so the Panthers ran through eight defensive tackles over the course of the season to try and plug the gap up the middle. They therefore enter this off-season needing to patch the hole they failed to fill last year.

In order to plug the gap in the middle the Panthers could do worse than turning to Sione Pouha (+30.0) from the Jets. Pouha will be 33 by the time the season rolls around, but he was late coming into the league and has remarkably little wear on his tires, and would make a huge impact on the run defense, while also allowing the Panthers to develop the pair of second year defensive tackles that were so badly out of their depth as rookies. The Panthers could also take a look at another player who has succeeded in a 3-4 in the form of Antonio Garay (+4.0), who has the skills necessary to be a force in the 4-3, and would give the Panthers a similar time frame to make an impact now, but be replaced down the line when their young players develop.

It all starts up front not in the secondary. I think Martin is garbage and we need to upgrade as soon as possible in that position. As for CB i think we will be fine with the guys we have and adding one in the draft or FA. Most importantly we need a beast DT up front to get some pressure up the middle!
