S play was a big reason we were abused in the air and on the ground... D would have been much better with good S play

eh, our defense suffered up front almost every play. u only see safety play cuz when a big play happens, they are the last ones missing a tackle/assignment. Safeties are the least important position on the defense, but it is nice when you have a playmaker there.

part of godfrey's problem this year was the LBs in front of him and a general lack of talent surrounding him. you even put beason back on the field and you are going to see godfrey improve quite a bit.

the lack of pressure and poor play from the 2nd and 3rd corner was just as much to blame if not more

a lot of the big pass plays weren't b/c of a lack of pressure.....we gave up some comical stuff. Huge TD plays that simply should of gone for long passes at best. YAC on those was a joke and shouldn't of happened w/ good S play. Go back and watch some of the big TD plays we gave up... .

I hate the way Godfrey has played overall. As I said, he gets extra crap b/c the kid has talent coming out the ears. It is why I don't bash Captain as much....he has physical limits.

debatable in today's NFL. We had to be near the tops in 30+ yard TD plays given up. S and LBs were getting abused on those outside tosses all year.

well, I think most can agree we had the worst duo a S in 2011...when you are that bad at that position it is going to make your D pathetic. Unless we suddenly have a 2002-2003 caliber DL here next season that position could really hurt us again.

I believe cornerback should have been first imo, Munnerlyn is just horrible there's no way around it. He's awful as a #2 cornerback, Butler is slightly better but not by much. The jury is still out on Hogan.

when you have a depleted LB corps and weak Dline interior that can't stop the run (along with a DE(hardy) that has his own problems with the run) and a #2 CB in over his head...yeah, those responsibilities are going to grow. you spend most of your time trying to plug leaks. guaranteed that things are going to fall through the cracks in that case.

i think meeks may have been an issue as well. his coaching philosophies didn't exactly mesh with rivera/mcdermott's.

improved coaching, a healthier LB corps, an upgrade or improvement at CB, and an improved Dline should help out godfrey and even martin (though i think we should look at finding a replacement for him soon. this year in FA or in the draft next year b/c this year's class isn't so good).

I still find Sherrod's performance completely unacceptable, always out of position, and missing tackles frequently. We only had one cover LB last year, our NT was injured, the rookie DT's didn't play well with a shortened offseason. Injuries truly fuged us in the ass, people really don't know the half of it when all I hear is that Cam lost us games, no the defense lost us games some of it was on Cam but a great part of it was on defense. I'd also like to see Hardy build his body up so he won't keep getting washed up in the run.

sounds like Godfrey every year but 2011. He was in position this year...still struggled in tackling.

Eventually, we need to bring in some real safties...not hoping all these converted CBs or LBs pan out like Fox was doing.

Give our Guys a better front 7 they will be solid if not really good.
