Team needs(PFF)

Neither of our safeties were up to par last year. I feel like the entire was just slapped together with what we had. Going into the year the glaring weakness was the secondary and DL, then as the year went along the biggest weakness was LB. The whole thing just fell apart at the seams. Guys that were supposed to be up and comers fell short(Godfrey, Hardy) and the only guys that truly carried their weight was Gamble and CJ. To me the whole D was such a mess I don't give a poo who we draft. We just need talent.

I think Martin's mistakes often led to big and memorable plays for opponents. That makes his mistakes standout more and look even worse. Godfrey was up at the line so much that some of his poor play didn't result in plays that burned as badly.

I think Rivera and staff like Godfrey as well or he wouldn't have the new contract.

Godfrey isn't going anywhere he signed a 6 year contract.

We will see how much they like him shortly. His contract in 2012 includes a 700,000 dollar salary and a 5 million dollar option bonus. Here are the details.

Seeing that though I wouldn't be surprised if they do keep him and for Hurney to restructure him by converting the 5 million option bonus to a signing bonus which then gets prorated over the 5 years remaining. We would save 4 million in cap this year and only increase his salary by 1 million over the next 4 years.

But yeah I think they want to keep him.

We have an experienced slot receiver with Gettis and LaFell on the outside by the name of Steve Smith.. Add to that Olsen and (maybe) Shockey and you have 5 targets outside of a running game and our 2 RBs who can catch out of the backfield.

Hogan looked solid in the few games he played, but obviously more needs to be seen. Munnerlyn wouldn't play nickle if someone was brought in, he'd have to fight to take over Dime from Butler, while Hogan will get more playing time than both.

Safety.. Martin better than Godfrey? LOL

Just from watching the games, I thought Godfrey actually improved last year from years past. So, wow...

And how did anyone have a worse rating according to any system than Martin in the defensive backfield?

An example could be a team running to the outside and then going to the TE heavy....Godfrey could have several bad plays but nothing earth shattering. Martin could make one mistake and it goes for a 50 yard TD. I saw a lot that. When Martin did fig up it was normally very very bad... But I could see how Goddrey could be rated worse and Martin just stood out more.

But I think Goddrey improved for him...he just isn't good yet. Always give him a hard time bc he has talent

S play was a big reason we were abused in the air and on the ground... D would have been much better with good S play

LBer play killed us in coverage as well... when James Anderson is the team's best coverage LBer due to injuries, they are going to suffer greatly..

we all know you hate Godfrey

the lack of pressure and poor play from the 2nd and 3rd corner was just as much to blame if not more

Thank you CRA.

As I said, I saw improvement, but when I made a thread that pointed out several obvious fails that Godfrey had against TEs over several weeks, I was flamed by a couple of the board "experts." Or as I like to call them, "Godfrey apologists."

If a guy is on our team, I want him to excel because that means better results for our team. But, to me, Godfrey has yet to prove himself. There have been some hitches along the way (playing on the same side as Richard Marshall, for instance), but he hasn't proven that his job should be secure IMO.

Martin had an awesome rookie year and regressed last year. Could be numerous reasons, but I think he deserves a shot to prove himself this year. The way he looked his rookie year, I thought he would be better than Godfrey. We'll see.
