Why is the thought of Manning staying with the Colts unheard of?

You have to take Luck and they have to cut Manning a huge check (bonus) without knowing if he will ever be capable of playing again... that's why it's almost a lock that they draft Luck and let Manning walk.

Yep, Manning is due the infamous $25 million dollar roster bonus in March, long before the Draft I believe. There was talk of trying to get Peyton to delay the bonus. Apparently it's not going to happen. I'm not sure he is any more of a "company man" than I think Drew Brees will prove to be with the Saints. :D

Didn't Manning collect $23 million in salary last year after signing a new contract with the Colts without a physical and never played a snap?

I think there is some bad blood going on their. Just no way Isray is going to stroke another 20 something million dollar check to see if Peyton can play this year. Not when you can start Luck at 20% of that price.

Even Marty Hurney tired of writing 17 million dollar checks to Peppers and eventually let him walk, and Pep was in perfect health.

Draft Luck, Trade Peyton to Redskins, Jets, or Chiefs for their 1st, draft best available OT/WR...or Richardson if available.

let me first say something about this, trading Peyton isnt going to happen unless that deal is dealt with, Washington, New York or Kansas City is going to trade high picks AND pay that insane contract that Manning has!!! Oh, and there's NO way a team will trade 3 first round picks to get Luck or RG3 and i doubt the Colts do that either, especially with Manning's injury, the Colts need at least a QB of the future.

Now to answer the question, it's not unheard of, there have been a few saying, maybe he gets cut, then re-signs a smaller contract, BUT most people think that Manning wont re-sign with them and another team will offer a better deal. the ideal situation for the Colts would be for Manning to return at a smaller deal, draft Luck, re-sign Wayne, Garcon and Saturday and keep that offense in check with Manning the starter and Luck learning, but i feel that the Colts end up losing Manning, Garcon and Wayne and likely sign a WR, draft another WR, maybe sign another WR or two and draft Luck.

The thought crossed my mind. Without the injury, I trade the pick and do what you say. However, the risk is too high. Luck is what Indy needs, and getting the 2 best QB prospects in the past 25 years sitting on the table when you pick first during that span is LUCK.

As others have said $$$$$

If Manning stays with the Colts and they draft Luck then they will carry almost 50 million dollars in quarterback against next years cap. Thats 40%-45% of their salary cap in two players.

You cant field a competitive team like that.

I am not sure that he said keep both (I did not read it carefully). If he did, then no, you can't keep both. Must choose. You can't have a $25 million contract holding a clip board.

Still think it's hilarious that nobody offered anything meaningful to trade up and take Cam Newton last year. Arguably the best rookie season ever for a QB, sky high potential, and great personality, yet now teams would give up three 1st rounders to take a more risky QB at #2. The rookie salary cap and negotiations on the CBA might have hampered offers, but good God, I wouldn't give three 1st rounders for John Elway in his prime. This just shows the humongous footprint Cam has left on the league already. Teams willing to sell the farm at the hope of recreating our success last season.

Right though?

My brother works for the loser Cleveland Browns. Their scouts told him Cam is a great athlete, but not smart enough. I could go on and on but basically I laugh every time they lose. They will never figure this league out. Have fun paying that RG3 price for Cam-lite. Nice case of where some fans are just as smart as the "experts" who collect a paycheck to evaluate talent. Losers

first off, people worried about Newton's character and real simple offense which is why team's didnt want to trade up for him and those issues ended up being false.
