Athleticism trumps weight DL prospects

Brockers = the Blaine Gabbert of DT's. Looks the part, but just doesn't have a big enough game to back up the hype, IMO. There's no doubt he's a physical freak with a ton of potential, but DT's like him are VERY risky in the 1st round. Generally the DT's who do succeed are the big nose tackles like Ngata/Poe.

I mean, just go back and look at some of the DT's taken in the 1st round over the last several years. You've got guys like Glenn Dorsey, Peria Jerry, Justin Harrell, etc. All busts and all with a similar build/skillset to Brockers. You take out Suh and Dareus and almost every DT picked in the 1st round since '06 has been a bust. It also isn't looking too great for Gerald McCoy in Tampa so far either.

I'm really trying to get on the Brockers bandwagon; I really am. But TBH I just don't see it. I watch his game clips on YouTube and see a guy with a lot of natural ability being pushed around by college OL's and making the occasional big play. I see him being extremely overmatched in the NFL.

Its spelled Claiborne....and no he won't.

Since we are working on spelling you might as well work on some grammar and punctuation.

It's need a Apostrophe there cool guy, and Ellipsis are three connecting dots not four. That's besides the fact use it wrong and didn't capitalize after it.

Oh and YES HE WILL. ;)

Speed has always been the more important of the two when comparing body types.

the formula for kinetic energy (Force) is

F=mv^2

or force equals mass times velocity squared. Speed is the more important of the two characteristics and changes in that variable or more likely to effect your outcome the most. However there is a certain amount of mass that you have to have in order for this to be useful and its important that its in the right place.

there is no GM in the entire league, wait, in any professional league that rates college game tape over measurables and potential. The OPost is ridiculous.

GMs are professional and they know that the two games are completely different. Do they watch tape, sure, but tape never trumps the other factors as a rule or habit by any stretch.

Everyone's big boards would look different if that were even close to true

I think GMs don't give a poot about the combine outside the interviews and physical health exams. Pending nothing horrible happens.

Carolina clearly didn't study Clausen's game tape since they assumed he would never have to be considered. That told you what you needed to know about him....not the silly combine drills.

If college tape didn't weight heavily into the decision making, Rivera and company wouldn't have literally broken down every snap Newton took.

If I watch a guy for 30 seconds running around, I think I can get a pretty good beat on how athletic he is in terms of speed and balance. It doesnt take much really. I like even seeing them stand side by side. I think you might be seriously under valuing the combine.

If it stand out to guys like me, think about guys that do it for a living in a controlled environment.

EDIT: for example, I had no idea Kalil was that much better than the others until I saw him at the combine.

well, his game tape shows how athletic he is as a football player... Combine is good for us at home simply b/c we don't watch all these guys and many are just hyped names to us.

the guys that do it for a living aren't finding out about the majority of these guys at the combine. Not the top guys. They already know what they are, what they can do. They might find out about some lesser known guy at the combine they haven't looked into and that may cause them to study his tape and look into him.

Too many "insiders" have commented on what GMs value at the combine and it isn't as much as us "fans" do.

Its always got that showcase feel, I guess. Well, as a fan, I do like it for that reason, but I do think its worth something to compare guys standing side by side in a controlled scenario.

I do think it is worth somthing.

But a 40 time is large pointless if you watch a WRs game tape and he struggles getting off the jam, runs horrible routes, and jokes in pressure moments with drops.

Cam was largle debate if he belong in the top 10 before the combine, he then went out and had a poor combine performance......and got drafted #1 overall.

Game tape, what he did in the past and interviews I think has proven to matter most....unless you are Al Davis (and he isn't with us anymore). Combine can spark interest and cause a team to look into kids but I would still argue the combine's raw numbers don't mean that much by themselves.

Game tape always greater than combine... the biggest thing at the combine is the medical and the interviews, the workout just allows the GM's, coaches and scouts to check off what they expected to see from these guys based on the game tape they've watched and if someone blows up a combine workout then they may go back and watch more tape on them.

Let's not forget the Bruce Jenner of the underwear olympics: Vernon Gholston... how'd that workout?
