My First Ever Mock Attempt

Montsta

I do not know the details, but Brockers at the combine was said to WOW scouts with his measurables. Was up to 322, all muscle. Is not running or doing drills. I know he has a pro day, but he is a red shirt sophomore with 1 year of tape. He projects to the top 10. Why the mystery? I think I would avoid him unless there is a good reason for not performing.

If this is true, I think it is silly. Upsetting to be honest. Im upset that he would do that. Too bad. A waste really. That private workout is going to be important. If he does well, I have a feeling he will be gone by the time the Skins are on the board.

This shows me we are all thinking the same way, just a matter of who we pick and where. Monsta, is the Green pick because you see us possibly not re-signing Shockey?

In OTAs, (I go to 2 or so a year), Barnidge is a beast. Great speed, hands, etc. Fox just didn't use him. RR and this offense will bring him out for you. However, the 1 year contract he was offered was smart.

I will get some jeers here, but I think we let Shockey walk if he wants $4 million. Not many teams are using a Shockey-type TE anymore. Who would we compete with if we offered $1.5? He had 4 TDs and fewer than 500 yards receiveing. He was generally healthy for the most part. Those numbers might not go up.

I did this before the OL combine drills, before Glenn started tearing it up. I admitted that I don't watch college ball as much as some, and looking around the web before I did it I saw several mocks that had Glenn in the late third, so I thought early fourth was also plausible. His combine profile also says he could go "as early as the third", so again that's where this slot came from. That pick could just as easily be the best OL player available at our pick in the fourth.

The trade up for Gilmore came from what I think could be a run on CB's late in the first and early second(NE, GB, NY, STL, TB, etc.), and Hurney and Rivera being afraid that at the #40 pick they would have to reach for a late 2nd/early 3rd CB talent. This is a team that gave up the world for Everette Brown, and from many accounts tried to do it to get Clausen earlier a couple of years ago. So that was my logic there.

The Green pick was based on the fact that Barnidge is coming off of a pretty serious injury, and Green has tremendous athleticism and upside so they may decide to draft him late and battle with Barnidge fore the 3rd TE spot in camp. Also, we shouldn't have our 8th string LB's playing in games next year, so having a 4th TE on the gameday actives list who could also really help on ST right away isn't an outright impossibility IMO. If they don't bring back Shockey, this pick becomes even more plausible.

Again, this is my first mock attempt and I wanted to explain the thinking I used behind a few of the picks. Thanks for the insights and critiques without just flaming me. It's unexpected but very much appreciated.

The thinking is sound. Lombardi said it best with his mock. He basically said there were going to be a lot of top ten trades and nobody was going to get it right. I am not criticizing anybody else for thier opinions, especially when they are explained so logically.
