My First Ever Mock Attempt

This is my first attempt at a mock draft ever. This doesn't necessarily represent what I would like to see happen in every way shape or form, but what I think could somewhat realistically happen. Plus I thought I'd throw a wrench in it to piss people off to make it a little bit more realistic in regards to this fanbases typical love/hate relationship with Hurney. Also, I'm not as avid of an NCAA football watcher as some (mostly just Stanford and limited PAC12 ball), so forgive me if I don't provide the same level of insight as others. So here goes...

1st Round - (9th Overall) - Michael Brockers - Defensive Tackle - LSU

Though it's widely known that he is still fairly raw, he is an instant upgrade to our piss-poor interior line, and is a young talent with huge upside. It's already been reported that the Panthers have an interest in him, and with Coples already being off the board by our pick he is far and away the best player available. Worry not, Panthers fans, Hurney rarely strikes out with first round picks.

1st Round - (27th Overall) - Stephon Gilmore - Defensive Back - South Carolina

Hurney makes a trade with the Patriots (who also own the 31st pick), pissing off Panthers fans everywhere. According to the Draft Value Chart the 27th pick is worth 680 points. We trade our 2nd round pick this year (490 points) as well as our 2nd round pick next year (270-580 points potentially). New England throws in a 5th round pick this year, but also takes our 6th. The front office is worried about the dropoff of CB talent after Gilmore, so they make a move to get him before he gets snatched up. They seem to love local guys, and if he excels during camp at CB then we have a #2 corner. If they don't like the direction he is going in they can still see how well Hogan does at CB and let Gilmore compete with Martin at FS. This team loves to draft versatile players.

4th Round - (104th Overall) - Cordy Glenn - Offensive Guard/Tackle - Georgia

Our offensive line is a potentially big mystery in the near future. Gross is getting older, Wharton makes arguably too much money, and Otah can never get on the field. Rivera and Jordan Gross have both said they like what they've seen out of Bell, but no sense in putting all of your eggs into the undrafted free agent RT basket. He will provide depth in the short term, and could end up being a starting Guard down the road if needed.

5th Round - (136th Overall) - Keenan Robinson- Linebacker - Texas

Like the offensive line, our linebacker position is also somewhat of a mystery. Most believe Thomas Davis will be cut and re-signed at a more cap friendly number or restructured, but coming off of his 3rd ACL tear to the same knee, some quality players are needed behind him.

5th Round - (159th Overall) - Ladarius Green- Tight End - Louisiana-Lafayette

A project tight end with some athleticism and upside, he isn't a burner but will catch the ball to move the chains. Considered raw, but he isn't needed immediately, and will have plenty of time to learn behind two great tight ends in Shockey and Olsen, all in a system that is very TE friendly. I know a lot of people love Barnidge, but I sometimes feel his potential is sensationalized by some on here, and he's coming off a season-ending (before it started) injury.

7th Round - (200th Overall) - Bryan Anger - Punter - California

Baker isn't worth what he's making, and although he was good at one point, he has been getting consistently worse each year in my opinion. If nothing else, drafting a new kid lights a fire under his ass to work harder or he'll lose his job.

Looks good. Only gripe is that Cordy Glenn is a late 1st/early 2nd round prospect and would never be there in the 4th. Otherwise, a solid mock.

I still am not a fan of taking Brockers or any other DT that early yet. I do however like how you had us trading back into round 1 to get a Corner. Also seems like I heard good things about that Tight End on NFL radio recently. As far as Glenn dropping, I have seen that happen to Guards before and our team we saw it first hand with Duke Robinson took a hell of a fall, so I commend you for being bold enough to predict a slide vs what the other draftniks are saying.

I see us going a different way in the first. We could trade down not once but twice picking up cb in the first or could still get brockers as most teams have him as the 3rd DT. Either way it's going to be exciting to watch what happens

Trading up this year is not a good idea. I like moves where we get a young known player like Greg Olsen for 3rd round picks, but I do not like trading up to get players in the draft. More options via trade down = the ability for more players to stick with the team and cheaper options. CB is the deepest position in the draft, and if value is not there when we pick, wait for the next round or try and trade back, and hope the dude you like is still available.

We have had more success trading down in the draft than trading up. I'm sick of losing draft picks for scrubs, I rather trade down, Bengals IMO will be reaching for a RB, so i would dangle that carrot in front of them hoping they see something they like.
