Trading up...

Just wanted to get you guys' thoughts on the possibility of trading up.

If Claiborne was there at #5, TB on the clock, would you be willing to give up #9, and next years 2nd round and 4th round to move up to take Claiborne?

Edit: Keep in mind that our next years 2nd round will likely be a mid/late round pick.

No offense taken, ive been around the board enough to know that it is impossible for everyone to like something you said.

IMO our biggest need is CB, and if we can get a guy like Claiborne in the first, our D will be fine TBH. But we could pick up a pash rusher like Vinny Curry or Chandler Jones in the second to bolster our D even further. I honestly think that when Beason comes back, he will make our Dline woes less noticeable. Plus getting Ron Edwards back will be good, then let our young guys rotate. I would like the Panther's to take a look at Jarret Johnson in free agency if we don't bring TD back. Here is what Walterfootball.com(ugh...i know) said about him.

Jarret Johnson doesn't rush the passer well despite playing outside linebacker in a 3-4. He's amazing in all other facets of the game, however. He's one of the most underrated players in the NFL.

Should be cheap too. Wouldn't be a long term fix, 31 y/o, but would add a guy who can instantly come in and be a starter if TD cant cut it.

I mean its not an impossible theory, but it doesn't serve our best interest. We need all of our draft picks mainly because we aren't going to be aggressive in Free agency. If anything we'll trade down for even more picks.

Morris Claibourne will be a great player imo, but he isn't worth taking away future picks. And he won't help fix our pass rush or run defense.

I'm not putting my stock in Ron Edwards

I am always on the trade down train. Last year...albeit it would have been terrible in hindsight, I wanted to trade out of #1. I still want to do the same this year, pref with the pats, take their 2 1sts and a third. I was just putting it out there as an option.

No, I wouldnt do that, especially with a division rival, for a position that has starting caliber depth in the 2nd round. I really, really, like Dre Kirkpatrick. I think he's gone by 14, but I am starting to warm up to him. Remember, regardless of position we will take best football player on the board in 1-2, and look to fill needs and BPA in later rounds. Who behind us before the cowboys needs a QB?

I like Kirkpatrick's length and ability to hit more than Jenkins. I think if we stay at 9 and all those guys are gone, we go with him. He'll be gone by 14, so you might as well pull the trigger there... or trade down if possible, make it cheap to do so... trade down 5-8 spots for a 2nd rounder this year or next year?

The only reason I wouldn't want Dre in the top 10 is because I don't think he is the kind of corner that can be left alone on a number 1 guy. He is more of a zone cover guy. There have been some talk he might have to move to safety at some point. I agree about his size, but you can stick Jenkins on a top WR and free your safety to come up in the box or help on the other side.

A lock down corner opens up what you can do on defense and I don't know if Dre is that guy.

Last year it was kind of a given that we would take Cam once the draft got closer. We also didn't have a 2nd round pick.

The year before that we didn't have a first round pick.

This is the first time in a few years that I've been excited for the draft just because I truly didn't know who we would take with a high pick. I'd prefer to go into next years draft with a full arsenal of picks as well, hopefully closer to the 30 range though.
