Comparing QB Robert Griffin III to Cam Newton draws laughs from NFL talent evaluators

Chris Leak was an accurate pocket passer in a spread offense. But yeah, I can see how they'd pass up those Tom Brady types, especially ones that are Joe Theismann's height.

In case you don't remember, teams weren't exactly clamoring to draft Tom Brady either, he was an exception to the rule.

Joe Theisman belongs in a different era, besides he was 6 feet even, while Leak was 5-11. That extra inch is a big deal. And again, his arm strength was lacking for elite QBs.

Chris Leak wouldn't have made it as an NFL QB no matter what his wonderlic was.

i said it once and will say it again, these two are completely different. RG3 has a great arm, that's true, but coming out of college, he had better footwork and is faster, BUT he's also smaller in both height and weight. they are similar in one aspect, both are QBs with great arms and mobility.

Now, they are different with mechanics. Cam's footwork needed work and he had worked on it all offseason, BUT Cam's throwing motion is great and over the top like it should be. Griffin's throwing motion is similar to Young's in that it's kinda low, but it should work in the pros. Another difference is running styles. Newton is a bigger guy and can take more hits if he has to, Griffin is smallish and more Vick like with his running. so if i had to compare Griffin it's a mixture of Vick and Young, but a better passer.

Was watching something on ESPN last night and they had Kiper on talking about how Luck and RGIII compared to the best QB prospects ever. He ranked both Luck and RGIII up with Elway and Manning... No mention of Cam and I highly doubt he ranked Cam up there amongst Elway and Manning. This obviously means little but it did make me think....

Now not that Cam really seems to need motivation but he's had plenty and apparently with Luck and RGIII coming into the league this season he will continue to have plenty of competition and motivation.

Last year he had motivation to prove he was an NFL QB, to prove he was worth the first overall pick and prove he belonged as a starter as a rookie. Heading into this season he has motivation to prove he belongs among the elite QBs. And although he's faced competition (in some people's eyes) from The Golden Calf of Bristol and Dalton already; He'll be faced with more competition in the form of Luck and RGIII coming in.

Cam has seemed to excel under pressure and competition this could be great for him.

LOL...Have to laugh...last season, Cam was being compared to Jaracus Russell, Vince Yong and every failed QB in the NFL because the All American QB in the 2011 was very weak. Now that media folks like Kip have the All American QB of their choice, his competitor is compared to QBs just as talent. Will the Alpha Male psychology every end.
