Comparing QB Robert Griffin III to Cam Newton draws laughs from NFL talent evaluators

RG3 ran a 4.38 40, fastest amongst QBs at the combine since Vick. His arm got a lot of praise. “When you talk about the Michael Vicks or the Cam Newtons or the athletic quarterbacks, this is the best throwing athlete I’ve seen come out in a while,” former FOX Sports analyst Brian Billick said on Saturday.

My point was/is, why are we told who is great or who should be the the next face of a franchise without them proving themselves. These QBs spend years working hard and doing their best to get to the NFL only to have a bunch of men in the sports media dictate their future in the NFL depending on their preference.

QBs get drafted by GMs, not the media. GMs do their own work checking out each prospect. The fact that you continue to spout BS about the media deciding the future of QBs only makes you look like an idiot.

The funny thing is he kind of flicks the ball like Vick as well.

His performance this year was pretty much identical to last year with a little more yardage and TDs and more attempts.

Yeah, most people thought he just busted on to the scene this season. But most avid college fans knew about RGIII before this season.

Before this past season a lot of people knew about him....but before this year he was on the path of being a great athlete that teams would have converted to another season. As a NFL QB prospect, IMO, this past year made him

To be honest he really did do anything that much different from the season before. It was just more exposure.

He was a signifantly better passer this year IMO

2010 - 454 attempts, 3501 yards

2011 - 402 attempts, 4293 yards

Yards per attempt was much better, as was his comp% and TD/INT ratio was better. He got more exposure bc he was a better QB and not just a stud athlete.

Well yeah he progressed as a QB but that's to be expected. It's not like he was a slouch and came out of nowhere, that's all I am saying. People just caught on because of the exposure.

In 2011 his better QB play resulted in them winning some games......games they lost the year prior.

If he duplicated 2010 teams would probably be looking at him as a utility type player.

The media didn't randomly decide to give him exposure, he earned it being much better. Baylor kids don't just get hype like kids who play at ND.

There's no denying his stats went up, that obviously can't be argued. But he was good his RS Soph year and if you watched him you saw he could put up numbers. He ranked 8th nationally in completion, 13th in passing yards with and 17th in yards-per-game. If he continued to grow as a QB like many do, then it wasn't too much of a shock to see him do what he did this year. Not saying people expected to put up this good of numbers but people expected him to continue to grows as a QB. Hell, I remember RGIII-Heisman campaigns before the season. Didn't think he'd win it when I heard it but it wasn't out of the ordinary.

I get that. Obviously he earned it. I am saying that the exposure helped him get recognized better by the casual fan. ESPN likes to appeal to the casual fan and his work this season was ESPN-worthy. But if you ask me, he deserved exposure the year before but didn't get it because it just wouldn't make sense ESPN-wise. But as a CFB fan, you knew about him.
