SCP Mock Draft 5.0 - My Ideal Scenario

Catalyst

Recommended Posts

This includes a trade and is basically my ideal realistic scenario for us:

1st (via TRADE): Dontari Poe, DT, Memphis

Our old buddy John Fox - with John Elway dragging him kicking and screaming all the way - moves up into the top-10 to get themselves a real QB and take Ryan Tannehill. Or maybe the Bengals move up for Trent Richardson, who drops to 8/9. Or possibly the Lions really want Dre Kirkpatrick. Whatever the case, we move down into the 20-25 range and pick up additional 2nd & 5th rounders in the process. Dontari Poe is one of my favorite prospects in this draft at a position of need. He's not a disruptive pass rusher like Brockers, but he is a massive run stuffer who can dominate the LOS similar to Haloti Ngata.

2nd: Alfonzo Dennard, CB, Nebraska

It's tough to predict who will be available at the top of the 2nd round, but if the Bucs take Claiborne in the 1st there's a good chance Dennard drops to us in the 2nd. We badly need a CB across from Gamble and Dennard is the best one available at this stage if he's still on the board.

2nd (via TRADE): Markelle Martin, FS, Oklahoma State

Sherrod Martin looks to be on his way to the bench, if not the waiver wire, but we have to find a replacement fairly quickly. This could also be Robert Lester this with pick or perhaps even Winston Guy, but he'd probably be a reach here. Still, a FS is a must if we don't address it in free agency.

4th: Keenan Robinson, OLB, Texas

The Thomas Davis situation is tough to predict. If he's brought back (likely) then he should go into camp as the starter at weakside linebacker. But we can't count on that and Robinson is a guy we've shown some interest in who is projected to go right around this spot.

5th: Ronnie Hillman, RB/KR, San Diego State

Rivera has said he wants a scat back. The popular pick is Chris Rainey, but it's beginning to look like he'll go earlier than we need to be taking a 3rd string RB. Hillman is another player in the Darren Sproles mold that could make an impact if used similarly in our offense.

5th (via TRADE): Julian Miller, DE, West Virginia

With the extra 5th rounder we pick up in the trade we look to add some depth/competition to the pass rush situation. Miller could have produced a lot more if the coaches didn't move him to nose tackle in 3-4 looks for some dumbass reason.

6th: Shaun Powell, P, Florida State

Powell is, IMO, the best punter in the draft. Would actually not mind taking him in the 5th if need be, but we'll see. If not Powell, there are several other punters who look to be worth drafting so there should be someone available here to fill that void.

7th: Joe Halahuni, FB, Oregon State

I really like this guy's potential to be a do-it-all FB in our offense. Could be a much better version of Rich Brockel, IMO. Is more of an h-back than a FB.

7th: Antoine McClain, OG, Clemson

This late if you can find a solid depth guy at any position you're doing well. OL seem to have a better hit rate late in the draft, particularly guards.

I find the draft particularly interesting. To use a baseball analogy for a football topic, there are no apparrent homeruns but 3-4 base hits at least. The first three picks could possibly start day one. The olb would be good for rotation at least and we have a solid specialteams upgrade with the return guy and punter.

I like it and coupled with a solid ol fa it has the makings of a good off season
