Panthers surprise Cuts and Restructures?

Off the top of my head I can name 3 (Steelers both times and the Colts).

Then you consider the 04 Pats did quite a bit of running with a rejuvenated Pro Bowl level Corey Dillon and the 07 Giants used their three pronged running attack to help keep one of the greatest air based offenses of all time off the field, I really don't think your point holds much water.

Forgot Addai was 30th. 2 of the 8 winners since the rule change. 08 Steelers did have him as he was on IR that entire year.

7 of the last 20 Superbowl winning teams had a 1st round RB on their active roster that year. Emmitt Smith accounted for 3 of those 7. I don't think being stacked at RB and investing heavily there has proven to be the answer to anything. Fitting the scheme at RB and investing elsewhere seems to of worked for most recent champs.

I'd rather have stacked talent on D than the backfield.

Even though he was overdrafted, Reggie Bush counts towards that total also. Not sure also if you are counting Jerome Bettis on the Steelers other SB team.

Neither Mendenhall nor Bettis were part of the AZ win. Mendenhall on IR and Bettis was gone by then. I count the one prior in the total.

You r right about Bush. Overlooked him. 8 of last 20 had a 1st round RB on their Superbowl winning squads.

Running is important.....just pointing out most champs haven't heavily invested there and the ones that did have the highly drafted RB didnt even come close to having our backfield investment. I mean if you have to pick a spot to loaded.....I just don't get running as as the place to do it.

IF Beason and Edwards are a full go. Our D is improved.

IF we hit pay dirt in the draft and get 2 starters for the D. Our D is improved

IF Gettis is a full go, we get lucky and 2-3 other gems fall in our lap, and any/all of the Davis, Shwartz, Otah triade can play. The whole team is improved.

IF these come to pass we could very well be in playoff contention. And we do not have to spend any money to accomplish our goal of improving the team.

A couple of restructures. A few strategic cuts. We should be just fine.

I just do not get why some of you have such a hard time enjoying this ride. We will reach our destination. Have some patience, and enjoy the fact that our Panthers are on the verge of the magic D word. Dynasty.

Giddy up, or giddy out. And GOOOOOO CATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How many starting DTs are Edwards' age and not just rotational guys? In addition to that he is coming off a year of IR. Edwards has to prove he can be a starter before we declare that spot a non-issue.

You rarely get multiple guys in a draft that are ready to start.

Davis is done. Need a replacement even if they humor him and let him attempt it.

You sure have a way of jumping to the worst case scenario don't you? Nothing is ever good enough.

Edwards is a "Rotaional guy", and "Has to prove he is a starter". Why? You say these things like I am just supposed to accept it as holy writ. Maybe you do it supconsiously, as a way to avoid agreeing with anyone who opposes your point of view. Edwards very well could have the type of year some of us expect him to have.

"You rarely get multiple guys in a draft that are ready to start." Why not us? We are in the unique position of needing an influx of talent. Why not 2 talented players that can start. Or at least give significant minutes. See, I llike feeling positive about precieved needs.

And the line about Davis is way out of left field. From everything I have heard and read. He is doing wonderfully. No pain. No discomfort. So I will respectfully disagree with your sentiment on Davis.

C'mon man. It actuall feels good to believe. I promise it won't hurt. Everyone has concerns. But we do not have to be all gloom and doom over them. Maybe it is the Cameron effect. Or maybe my giddy is out of contol. Either way. I see the promised land. And it ain't that far off. And ain't one of you Debbie Downers gonna derail my giddy.

Just my thoughts. And GOOOOO CATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not worst case, just being realistic.

too many are inking Ron Edwards in a sure thing if he can simply be on the field....his age, coming off IR and the fact he has never played a snap here matter.

Saying Davis is done isn't out of left field....no player in the history of the NFL has made the comeback he is attempting. REALISTICALLY, we need to find someone to play that position even if they want to give the opportunity to attempt coming back.

Too often, people think guys in Carolina uniforms will constantly prove to be exceptions to the rules. Maybe Ron Edwards will be a legit starter despite being an older DT coming off IR, maybe Davis comes back, maybe we draft 2 guys that can be good enough to actually start week 1 on D....maybe one of those happens it just isn't realistic to bank on them all and knock guys who don't believe all of it will happen.

I hear you, I really do. I'm just busting your chops. I realize that not all Panther fans share the same level of enthusiasm. Die hard fans could care less about reason. Cold hard facts, links, or it didn't/couldn't/won't/will/might happen.

I say why not to all that stuff. With a little luck we should be competitive next year. A little luck is defined as getting some help to improve the team. IE. Beason back, Gettis shows his potential, Otah is not a wuss, Schwarts is a real starter, Davis comes back, (Miracles do happen in my world.) Hogan holds his own, Pilares takes a leap, Armanti takes a big step up, are all possible.

So a little luck is getting a couple of those things to happen. Good luck would be for a few of those to happen, coupled with our 1st rounder coming to play. And great luck is for everything to fall our way.

Our hopes this year rely heavily on our luck level. The good news is, this should be our last year where luck even plays a roll. By next year our needs should be minimal, and filling said needs could very well turn the tide in our favor.

And I didn't even mention Edwards. IF he can give us this year, and maybe next, that would be another step forward. Yeahhh

Or not of course. And GOOOOOO CATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
