Halloween (Rob Zombie version)

Believe it or not, there is set to be a Part 3, with her in it.

Regarding King Kong, I assume you mean Peter Jackson's version. I thought it had potential but got too long and fairly stupid (a giant ape on ice? seriously?) The 70s version was better.

The Godzilla remake was, of course, an utter abomination. But then the guys behind it are some of the worst filmmakers in the industry today.

Regarding some others mentioned...

I don't know if I'd say Zombie (or many others these days) has a "style" other than just to throw as much gore on the screen as possible. Not a one of them seems to know how to build suspense.

None of the Amityville movies do justice to the book (long since found to be a hoax).

As a side note, Stephen King can write great stories, but I doubt he could write a decent ending even with a gun to his head.

The new Friday the 13th had Jason using a bow and arrow, among other things. Terrible.

I liked Jackie Earle Haley okay as Freddy but let's be real. Robert Englund is Freddy Kreuger and always will be. Add in that the movie overall wasn't that great. The script was weak.

Jeepers Creepers looked like one of the scariest movies ever until they introduced the psychic and the villain turned out to be a twisted take on Batman. Could have been sooooo much better.

The new Texas Chainsaw Massacre was all right. Sequel looked like crap. Liked the new Fright Night a lot though. Might be one of the few remakes that I think could actually stand up to the original.

Pretty much all the sequels to the original Halloween were mostly awful, though I kinda liked that they had little Tommy Doyle grow up into an ass kicker. Generally though, only H2O was half decent, and it was followed up by that crapfest with Busta Rhymes.

For that matter, can anybody name a good horror sequel in the last few decades? I can't right now. Liked the prequel of The Thing okay, but it certainly wasn't up to the original.

Good write up. Mostly agreed. I think H2O was horrible because it was gimmicky (nothing creepy, just a bunch of suspenseful music, pause, SCREAM) and completely ignored the story of the previous 3 movies with Michael's niece and her child.

I did love the scene were Jamie Lee Curtis' character went off looking for Michael. That was badass IMO. Something you rarely see in horror movies.

I think the idea of the empowered female fighting back against the evil force is pretty normal in horror movies. The final girl aspect seems to always go this way.

Speaking of horror movies and the cliche antics, you all should check out Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon. It's an awesome movie.

But this wasn't the final act, and she wasn't cornered.

She could have left, but she grabbed something (ax? can't remember) then went into the darkness actively seeking him out. That NEVER happens.

I actually kind of liked that they ignored the other movies

the guy that made jeepers creepers is a homo pedobear, that's why there are so many young dudes shirtless in that movie

Yeah, Victor Salva, the guy who did "Powder".

That was a weird ass piece of cinema. A film that left you asking "what the @%$# just happened (and why do I feel dirty)?" :sosp:

I thought the ending of that was like something Stephen King would come up with.

Don't really remember the ending. Can't make it through the whole movie, Jeff Goldblum is draining to watch (except for The Fly, he was actually great in that).

King's novels lose steam because he doesn't frame his narratives, he kind of just lets it take him wherever it goes. His short stories are fantastic (it's a shame the short story is becoming so irrelevant these days). Night Shift is one of my favorite books of all time.
