Shipping a Car (It's not all about me)

I just bought a 1970 Bronco to restore, it would have cost me $320 to ship it from SC to NC. I eventually decided to rent a UHaul and bring it back. Cost about the same to go get it that way, but damn 5 1/2 hours down there, and a little under 6 hours to bring it back took its toll on me.

Have any of you ever purchased a vehicle and had it shipped to you? What's the cost?

I am shopping for vehicles and the ones i want are all about 500 miles away.

I did put a deposit down on a BMW in Tampa once that I found on ebay. Guy had stellar reputation. I had a guy friend look it over. I had my stuff packed and ready to go get it but decided to stop and look at another car in Jacksonville. I never made it to Tampa. The guy was very cool and refunded my deposit.

For 500 miles, if you don't have a trade-in, then why not get a one-way flight and go pick it up. Or if it happens to be in the Ft. Lauderdale area, I may be able to work something out with you.

I am vehicle shopping also and can't find what I want locally. What site have you been using to look around? Are you planning on buying something that you haven't test driven/checked out and ship it to you? Not sure I could do that. I would hear my dads voice screaming in my ear if I was to consider it.

Yeah, I don't think I could have something delivered without seeing it first-hand. Or having someone I knew would be a very good judge of what I wanted checking it out.

What do I want to get or what will I get? 2 different things.

Everything I wanted took premium gas (Acura, Maxima, etc) and that is defeating the purpose. Don't want car payments, don't want ridiculous shop bills. I want something fun to drive, leather, sunroof, etc while still fairly economical.

After process of elimination that lead to a 2008 V6 Toyota Camry SE:

0-60 in 6.2 secs and around 30 MPG (Hwy). I can live with it but open to other suggestions if anyone has one. Been looking for awhile and this is what I settle on.

That looks like a lucid, intelligent, well thought-out decision.

Very un-Iggle fan like.

Hawk that is what I was looking at also (2006-2007 range). Found some in my price range and that would be my first choice but I have heard conflicting reports on that gas thing. Anyone I know that owns one has told me premium except for you and one other person. I know the difference isn't much but gas is expensive enough in the US without having to buy the most expensive kind and premium in many places has exceeded $4 in NC.

I honestly don't notice much of a difference in the performance between mid grade and high grade....and just so ya know....gas is way more expensive here still!!

once in a while I'll fill it with premium if the prices drop a little...but mostly mid grade. Thing is a great looking, great driving car. I love it.
