Shipping a Car (It's not all about me)

Chevy Silverado 4.8L V8 - it says 19 Highway and 14 city. Kept track about a month ago and got 12 mph. :(

What year is your truck? My old 88 Bronco used to get about that and it had an obnoxiously heavy bumper. Is your tire pressure correct? How often do you have the regularly scheduled maintenance done? How much unnecessary crap are you keeping in it? How many miles are on it? That mileage seems a little ridiculous.

2004 with 81K. It's never missed a service up until recently I have about 7K in between oil changes right now and didn't do the 75K maint. work yet because I want to sell it. Tire pressue is good and checked every 6K when I get them rotated and balanced. I don't carry anything in it at all and I just use it to commute which is why I need to get rid of it.

Honestly the factory specs says it gets 14 mpg in the city brand new. For me to get 12 MPG in city driving with it being 7 years old isn't unreasonable. The exact mileage I calculated was 12.7 MPG I think. Air filter, oil change, etc. would probably get me back to 14 MPG I would think but that still sucks.

I figured you took care of your vehicle. The only other things you can do to improve fuel economy is performance upgrades like underdrive pulleys or headers, but the what you spend in parts won't equal the fuel savings.

It kills me the see people bitch about fuel economy when the have half inflated tires and a bunch of crap in the trunk.

what are you wanting to get, JR?

What do I want to get or what will I get? 2 different things.

Everything I wanted took premium gas (Acura, Maxima, etc) and that is defeating the purpose. Don't want car payments, don't want ridiculous shop bills. I want something fun to drive, leather, sunroof, etc while still fairly economical.

After process of elimination that lead to a 2008 V6 Toyota Camry SE:

0-60 in 6.2 secs and around 30 MPG (Hwy). I can live with it but open to other suggestions if anyone has one. Been looking for awhile and this is what I settle on.

well FINE!!!!SCREW YOU THEN!

just get it in black though or you'll look ghey :)

lol...Not sure the color of the car will help me with that. I do like black and it looks good cleaned up but it also will show key marks down the side of the car from crazy pyscho b*tches more than white and that is something I need to consider. If I find what I want at the price I want I will take it in white, grey, or black. Not doing red though.

get an Acura TL, mid 2000's. Runs just as well on mid grade as it does on premium

Hawk that is what I was looking at also (2006-2007 range). Found some in my price range and that would be my first choice but I have heard conflicting reports on that gas thing. Anyone I know that owns one has told me premium except for you and one other person. I know the difference isn't much but gas is expensive enough in the US without having to buy the most expensive kind and premium in many places has exceeded $4 in NC.

Have any of you ever purchased a vehicle and had it shipped to you? What's the cost?

I am shopping for vehicles and the ones i want are all about 500 miles away.

If you are a member of AAA, they used to have a car relocation service. (I don't know if they still do.) For a fee, they would have someone drive your car from point A to point B. It wasn't all that bad, but that was back before Gas went crazy.

OR; Call Waggoneers (sp) trucking. They have the contract to haul Mercedes' from the Alabama plant all over the US. They can easily pick your vehicle up and deliver it here. (Waggoneers is cheaper then Horseless Carriage Trucking.)

OR; If you know someone with a race team you maybe able to arrange they to transport it or their show car people. (Especially if the show car has an open date. they maybe willing to take the trailer and go get it.)

OR; Watch the TV show "Shipping Wars" and get the name of the company that puts out shipping bids.
