Dont count out Ingram as the Panthers first pick

What no "There's nothing worse than a Gamecock Homer" type of statements? Where's Nicbsball2 when you need him? Hah.

I wouldn't mind this pick at all. He's probably a better version of Charles Johnson.

wouldn't go that far. for one thing his arms are about 3 inches shorter.

I'm all for Defensive line help, just not a fan of Ingram. Guy seems nice and produced at USC but I get a tweener vibe from him. Short arms concern me at any position, but I think it matters a lot at DE and OT. Some might compare him to Dwight Freeney due to similar size, but I'd have to see a lot at the combine to change my opinion that he's no Freeney. I'd prefer Quinton Coples if he's available over almost every other prospect other than Morris Claiborne or Matt Kalil.

Ingram looked pretty good here. I don't know if I'm the only one, but Jadeveon Clowney caught my eye as much as Ingram. If he bulks up that 6'6" frame and doesn't do anything stupid, he'll be a 2014 top 10 pick.
I like Clowney as well. But when Ingram is receiving all these double teams it does free up the other side. To be fair.

I like Ingram but I just really don't care for a DE in the first.

Johnson, Hardy, Applewhite, Keiser> Edwards, McClain, Fua, Neblett

Its not an obvious need being that Hardy is OK versus our cb and fs that is horrible, however we really did not get alot of pressure on the qb ie Drew Brees had all day.Ron Edwards will help our run defense and I hope one of our other tackles will develope. I guess everyone has an opinion on how to put this defense together.

Tell me one thing about Ron Edwards other than he was brought in to start last offseason.

I would not count out Ingram if our objective is to get more pressure on the qb.If we pass I would not count out Curry in the 2nd.

I think he is one of the more interesting prospects in the draft. He has lined up as DE,DT and Outside lb.

:iagree:

I would not be the least bit suprised if Ingram is on the Panthers radar. Based on the highlight tapes, his performance during Senior Bowl week and recent interviews, he seems like the type of player that would be a good fit for us - very good work ethic and passion for the game (says he favorite player is Ray Lewis). As Rayzor says, he does seem to be a Charles Johnson clone, but as long as we have the beef on the inside, having him at the other DE spot would be a nightmare for opposing offenses. He also has the size, versatile and athleticism to play inside @ DT in certain packages and rush LB in a 3-4 formation. Just imagine Charles Johnson, Melvin Ingram, and Greg Hardy rushing the passer; who would you block? Will be interesting to see how he does at the combine.

Small. Short arms. Why take a guy with physical limitations in the top ten? If DE is the choice, go Coples. If he's not mentally up to it, then there isn't a top-ten worthy defensive end in the class.

That's the problem - Coples meets the eyeball test but there are still questions about his motor. If Coples had Ingram's motor, he'd be a slam dunk @ 8 or 9. Ingram's been very productive in what is considered the toughest football conference in the country. No reason to think he can't duplicate that success in the pros despite his physical limitations.
